i can understand not being able to do anything after boarding a new ship in station, but why do you get the same lag after you board your pod in space? it makes it pretty much impossible to warp after you do board your pod, and gives the enemy more than enough time to lock and scramble you.
this has been like this for some time, is there some way to balance this so an enemy cannot take advantage of client/server lag in a session change such as this?
thanks for constructive replys.

I've experienced it aswell, you also get it when a new system loads after jumping. Turning off the mail blink doesn't help it, and according to the GMs the lag after session changes like that doesn't exist.

Yeah, its stupid IMO. They should:
1) Stop the pods instawarping out when you log. 2) Add a 5 second invincibility timer to the pod to counter the lag
OR
3) OMG FIX THE LAG -- Proud member of the [23].

I agree with this.
There is an invulnerability timer when you exit warp, exit a station, jump through a gate that is there to assure that all clients are up to speed on what is going on. This is not the case when you get popped and I believe something should be done to address this issue.
For instance the popup menu to warp away vanishes when you blow up, why is that?

Definitely should be fixed. I lost my ship and by the time my pod loaded I was already webbed and almost into armor. Needless to say, I died. No problem, but it would have been if I had actually had a chance to try to escape.

Lost about 2 pods to this... I think it's computer lag as my whole computer feels sluggish when it happens and I have an A64 with 1gb of memory.

The delay will be the same because it is the same operation that's happening in both cases. So fixing the lag in one situation would mean fixing it in both. Which is quite tricky, as the delays were introduced to avoid cases where strange things could happen when you switched over too quickly.
Haven't been ship-killed in a while, but last time I was, I seem to remember that it took your ship a bit of time to go through the "blowing up" animations before your pod appeared. It probably wouldn't be hard to tweak things so that this blowing-up period was used to cover the session-change delay, kinda how the cloaking is used to cover jump-in delays.
Some mechanism to cover the delay is far more likely to be implementable than eliminating the delay entirely.
You can do anything. But you can't do everything. |

Edited by: blood red on 19/09/2005 01:34:18 thanks for the replys, i wasnt sure if it was just me noticing things. sortof makes things hard to manage, when the only chance you might possibly have of saving a pod is logging off.
i would like to see the 5 second invul timer for this as well, otherwise the only fighting ill be doing in the future is pve.
boo to the management for ignoring a detail such as this.
