I was currently thinking about with a few friends of mine and making a small RP corp mainly for production and sales. I was wondering if anyone knows how profitable being a production corp is before I do so? Riela Tanal, Senior Director "Never underestimate the element of surprise"

It takes alot of work to run a successful corp of any size.

I'd say it all comes down to what you produce. If any corp, no matter its size, only produces unneeded items, it won't do well. But I imagine a small corp with the right BPOs, i.e. many T2 items, ammo, the right ships, etc, can be very successful.
You should probably try setting up shop near a warzone. You can probably fill a lot of orders for replacement parts there.

Doesn't necessarily even have to be tech2 if you sell the right stuff in high-volume areas, and do it smart.
Tech2 makes you money 'hand over fist', but there are other ways to make money well in a small corp. ------ I generally assume the following: 1. 95% of Empire Carebears don't get 0.0 PVPers. 2. 95% of 0.0 PVPers don't get Empire Carebears. 3. 100% of Ore Thieves steal just to upset the Miners. |

Bear in mind that small corps are in a lot of danger from certain pirate outfits. THey find a small corp that they know has no chance against them, and declares war on them, either for kicks or to extort money. -==- Holy-Jim> as you know, surprise is the key to victory.....surprise! heh small corps are awesome and great fun especially eith just freinds... Shoppe for example started out very small at about 60 or so members 20-24 active we began doing things 100-200 member corps did. It takes effort and a bit of elbow grease but small corps is where the fun is at... and if you get caught up in a greifing war(ie some one decd you for fun) look me up i know a couple corps.
gah spelling is soooo overated.... |

The basics to being successful is - be hard on your members. All corps that allow their members to 'do their own thing' don't really do too well. Members will take this as an excuse to let other people do the leg-work.
Enforce mandatory activity of whatever kind. Have to be active or get booted. Etc. Otherwise, standards drop. "It's just a game" is no excuse in the world of EVE. It may be a game, but it's one that pretends damn hard to be real, and if you want to 'play' at being successful you have to 'play' at doing real work. _________

You also need a good ceo, and good members to knowing when to step up to the plate and when to go with the flow....and at this point i'd like to say how awesome it has been to fly with our ceo, begining from pretty much nothing to becoming a awesome corp. peeps that need mentioning: Marcus Gurisbus- Awesome guy Hans & Piper Gates- long hours and dedication have totaly helped us get this far, really dunno where we would be with out you guys. and to the rest of shoppe good members = awesome corp
p.s. seleene scares me

Small corps can be very successful. However as someone pointed out it takes more work then in a larger corp.
Everyone's got to be dedicated and pulling their weight if it's just you and 5 or 6 other people. In larger corps there's more room for inactivity and messing around.
Just stay focused and know what your priorities are. Also if you're gonna be the CEO make sure you handle issues as they come up and all that fun stuff. It's hard work but can be very very rewarding.
For production and stuff, T2 is definately where it's at. However if you have some dedicated people you can make T1 profitable but personally I've always believed in T2 production and supply thereof to be the best sources of income. -----------------------------------

I am in a corp with a couple of my mates and we make a tidy sum.
Not nearly as much as a big corp, but plenty to get us what we want and need.

A small corp without a goal is never successful.
A small corp with a goal is almost always successful.
If you create a small corp of people who just talk in a channel and do mining ops, you'll get nowhere.
But some of the most successful corps in EVE are small corps. -- Proud member of the [23].

Yeah you need a goal for sure. JF has never been above 69 members but seems to survive well enough. A roleplay ethic or objective helps a lot, as does a mix of specialties who excel in different areas. And industrial support and cost price tech2 really sweetens the deal.

Well, my corporation is rather small, but we have the right equipment, and the right stuff to survive it seems. We're all making a profit, selling battleships and supplying our corp with ships. Pirates are only a minor irritation, whe one becomes obnoxious, we simply 'dispose' of him/her.

Edited by: Blood Stain on 19/09/2005 16:05:11 Most large corps are made up of alts and inactices. My advice is keep your corp thin and trim... lose the excess fat. It not only gives a false perception of your size, but joining an alliance with a 50+ member corp and only having 5-6 people online at one time can stir some trouble.
But, yes small corps are very successful. I know one small corp with 14 POS.

Battle Angels Inc has less than 25 members, and judging by our killboard I think we're doing pretty well! A smaller more close-knit corp can often be more rewarding than a larger faceless one with a lot of inactive players, and it also makes management a lot easier.

The Alliance system has also made small Corps more viable. There are a number of Freelancer alliances now, Such as the Confederation of Independant Corperations. Small Corps can now enjoy the advantages of staying independent while enjoying the support of an alliance

NAGA started out very small, and numerically they still are - and look at them: the biggest producer of Tech 2 in the game, with a commercial empire worth tens of billions. Just one question: what do they do with all the money? ---:::---

small corps IMO are much much better than large corps because fleet battles suck and dont take much skill, just money and training. While smaller pvp requires skill and is much more fun. It's tough, because you have to work for it.
When I come home from a 12 hour work day, It can be too much to come home & pretend to "work" in EVE.
But you get out of the game what you put into it... ------------------------------------------------ Current Hobby other than EVE |

However, I think it is almost always easier to have a big corp. ------------------------------------------- Sometimes, I wake up but keep on dreaming. |

I would have to say I perfer to be in a small corp. And a small group of peeps that trust each other , you can become very good friends. You won't get lost in the mass of people in your corp and your voice will be heard (though not always listen to)
