any $10 piece of crap from radioshack, or the sucky headset that came with bf2/ut2k4 preorders, will be fine. the headphones on those are horrible quality but I don't like wearing headphones so I just put the band around my neck and bend the microphone to my mouth.

altec lansing makes one pair with a big headphones that have good padding all around and also had a good mic. Its a bit expensive but it works well.

I have a pair of those and the sound quality is just lovely. Mic seems OK too. There is a newer version out now so you might be able to get some bargains.

my 2 cents.
The best headset/mic combo for the money (imho) has gotta be the plantronics rigs. 20-40 bucks (depending on model) will get you going with great sound reproduction and excellent noise cancelling mic.
