I am a 2 month old miner and I make about 1.2 mil ISK an hour mining pyro. Is this good? I was told that I should be making 10 mil an hour doing what I am doing. Can you mining vets point me in the right direction on what I should be doing?
I have:
Ospery
mining II lasers
mining 5
industrial 5
astro 3
refining 5
ref eff 3
pyro refining 2
What should I be doing to increase my intake?

Get cruiser 5 if your going to use Osprey.
Up your Pyro eff.
Look at other ores like Veld, Scor
Go for Covetor.

I don't consider myself a mining Vet but I used to use the same ship, mining laser and skill.
Osprey is a good mining cruiser for its 20% mining laser yield and a plus side is that it can carry 5 medium scout drones (I had only 4 due to skill level).
At that time I earn about 2.5 - 3.5 million per hour. What you need to do now actually is to upgrade the ores you mine. Have you tried Omber / Kernite (System Security 0.7-0.5)? They are more profitable and Osprey + 4 medium drones is able to survive the rats there. If you feel that you want more, you can try 0.4 system for Jaspet. It is more risky with NPC/PC pirates but doable.

Agree completely. The 20% bonus to mining yield per level is anything but minor if you're using an Osprey. I also second the notion that if you want to increase mining yield, go for a Covetor.

I probably have a different take and to get the most you need to figure out what you want to do in the longer term.
While covetors with strip miner 2's and t2 crystals (and t2 mining drones) vacum more ore than any other ship their training requirements are very heavy and at the end you still can only mine.
Another option is to train up for a bs and use this with miner 2's till u can use dcm 2's then you have a ship that can mine all ore, npc hunt do missions. Unfortunaly you pick caldari and along with minmater they have the worst mining battleship platforms.
The Apoc is probably the swiss army knife of battle ships, however, I have a real soft spot for mining in dom's while they can fit only 6 mining lasers there drone capacity and flexablility in setting up make them a choice for me. My current mining setup is a dom and a geddon. These l1 bs's are a lot less to insure and easier to replace for those times when you loose a ship.
While the above is my opinion on which way u want to go, I also want to add some things you might want to check to increase your current output.
1. Refine at a station with base refine efficiency of 50% not less.
2. Refine at a station where u can run at least one mission with that corporation. this reduces station tax which is normally 5%.
3. Get to your ref eff skills to 5 so you get min 100% refine efficiency when you refine (you may be there already).
4. Get mining drones to L5 pronto the T2 mining drones are not to be neglected.
5. Astro 4 is the minium for high end mining as it gives u the most output L5 only helps with low end.
6. When you have mins to sell, spend some time looking for areas to sell in, dont get me wrong don't haul it 50 jumps but you may find a better price 10-20 jumps away.
7. Use sell orders dont sell at market, so if you moved you mins say 15 jumps to a busy local area look for the prices on market as a guide to set yours, i often set multiple sell orders so i can make some quick isk then make some profit on the higher prices.
8. The advantage of going to an area where the prices are higher is that you already offer a service by having the mins for sale at the location sometime buyers will pay quite a lot more if they don't have to haul.
9. Ions ore guide. I mine the following for the for the mins i want,
trit = veld
pyrite = scordite
mex= plag
iso= omber
nox = (japset in empire hemo has to many pirates around) (0.0 crokite :))
Zydrine = (empire i hear some ores have it might be japset not 100%)(0.0 crokite, bisot, arknor).
Megacyte (Arknor, Bisot, i hear spud has mega never mined it.
Mine the 10% extra ore then the 5% extra ore then the normal ore in the order.
While there are other ores they produce the desired minerals at a slower rate this means less isk.
With the price of mex moving up atm you may want to look at plag, if japset has some syd that is also another good ore As you can see I hardly mine pyrox. While a year ago I could give you an hourly breakdown of the best ore to mine at current prices, now i just do the right thing well mostly.
Oh and finally if your not using bm's form the station to the field ore can and return then your lossing isk.

First and foremost, stop mining pyro and go find some omber/kern. As Chikote said, these ores appear in .7 space, which is easy for a Osprey to survive in with drones for protection. As I type right now I'm mining Omber in .7 space. I have 4 medium drones and the ~5k rats that show up are no problem at all, even when they show up in groups of 3.
Omber gets you Isogen. With iso selling at 130+, I get 2 to 3 million isk per hour.

Mining - 5
Astreology - 5
* Deep Core Mining - 2 (If you plan to use Cruiser/Battleship to mine & Ignore this if you go for Barge since you are better of using SM1 or MSMII)
* Cruiser - 5 (If you plan to use Osprey/Scythe and don't plan to use any barge in future)
Drone - 5 (To be able to use more than 5 drones)
Drone Interfacing - 5 (Important to increase mining yield and/or protection from rats)
* Mining Barge - 5 (If you plan to use Covetor)
Those with * is not neccessary depending on the outcome of your planning.

i'm really new to the game and didnt want to start mining because it seemed boring. but 1-2 mil ISK per hour mining is definately alot more than i'm making running kill courier missions. I want to eventually get into the PVP/High End Courier mission side of the game. Currently maxxed out in learning skills and a decent set of combat skills, no mining whatsoever though.
should i maybe pick up and do mining for a few weeks till i get more money to put into combat?

Hi. I see that you all are mining kernite in .5 space and above. I'm having a hard time finding it in high sec systems, can anyone point me to a few examples?
