There was a time when I looked at WoT, but gameplay videos completely killed it for me. After seeing several videos abut two tanks revolving around each other and shooting point-blank, I was totally turned down by how hopelessly lame it looked. Heh, I also don't like PvP in EVE, even if it was 1v1.
I like dogfighting (but not on friggin' tanks) and I like PvP (but not in EVE). The Greater Fool Bar-áis now open for business, 24/7. Come and have drinks and fun somewhere between RL and New Eden!-áIngame chat channel: The Greater Fool Bar |

War Thunder may be more to your liking. Surrender is still your slightly less painful option. |

If they ran it like realistic tank combat, there'd be no player base - No one likes getting smoked by a camoflaged and hull-down tank nearly a kilometer away when you turn the wrong corner. Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

We must be linked in the Interconnected Lattice of Cosmic Unconsciousness at the moment Brujo. I was watching that video yesterday. I love it so much that I proposed "Apes with AKs" as our corp's slogan.
For you guys that like tanks and dogfighting, I'm going to plug World War II Online: Battleground Europe here. I love that game, but I don't have time to play it and EVE also. Unfortunately the game's not noticed much, and could shut down if it doesn't get some more subscribers. |

It's like that in Battleground Europe. Most of the time you never saw what hit you. The skill is in being the guy who a) placed his tank in a good kill zone with good line of sight and b) being the guy who saw the other guy first. (Sorry for the consecutive posts. Also might help explain the low player base. Not many folks as want realistic combat sim. But now I might join up - I never saw the point in whinging abuot gate camps and ganking: That's the most efficient form of war in the real world - never give the enemy an even break, hit him where he ain't looking, and kick him whilst he's down. I was in WoT during beta and it was fun when everybody was new and dumb. But as I got higher up in levels it quickly became "Sit and wait until the other guy makes a mistake" and that wasn't nearly as fun. Plus, as you get high up in teirs the grind is ridiculous. |

Yeah, the thinking and patience required discourage some players.
Also maybe the ugly, no-nonsense graphics. But they're that way for a reason. There are no "rooms" or instances like we have in EVE. The trajectory of every bullet, shell and bomb has to be accurately plotted, so everything has to happen on one a huge terrain map. So they can't have rooms with nice background textures-- the terrain has to be accurately rendered all the way to the horizon. So to avoid massive lag, they have to keep the graphics relatively simple. Which turns off some people. |
