I've recently started playing EVE again after some time away from the game. I'm looking to get back into research and production etc. but I seem to have lost all my old formulas.
Can anyone tell me the formula(s) for calculating the base factor of a mineral type regardless of ME level? ie. The absolute minimum mineral cost needed to build after researching.
Also:
Are there formulas still hanging around that let you work out the max. ME level you need to research to for 'perfect' material costs?
When researching PL on BPO's is the max time saving you can achieve still 5 seconds?
Thanks in advance. I have no idea how much the research side of things has changed in my absence.

IIRC: max mineral req * 2 * base waste factor.

No, PL research is now actually worth while. Up to a value of 3-5. You could take it up to about 9 but beyond that the time saved in manufacturing times is inconsequential.

Ok, thanks.
I'm still unsure about a few things but I'll keep trawling. It baffles me why more information on the BPO formulas isn't readily available.
The two main points that are still bugging me are:
1) On the official guide about researching it keeps mentioning a "Wasted Ingredient" as though it should display on the BPO how much minerals are being wasted. Maybe I can't see the wood for the trees but I have yet to see anything like this. Anyone know what this refers to?
2) Base minerals. There used to be ways of finding the base minerals at any given ME level, I'm hoping these methods are still around or new ones have been found. I would appreciate it if anyone could help me out with this.

The base mineral requirements for items can be seen in the Item Datebase. Don't look at the blueprints information in the Item Database but look at the item itself, section Building Requirements.
Wastage_Factor = Base_Wastage_Factor / (1 + Material_Level)
Factor_Requirements = round(Base_Mineral_Requirements * Wastage_Factor * 1.25 * (1 - (0.04 * Production_Efficiency_Skill_Level)))
