Edited by: Bogusheadbox on 30/07/2003 12:39:45 Yep it is true, it appears that some of the happless denizens of eve have thrown their spray paint cans away and moved to another form of can to paint the stars with their graffiti.
They go by the name of XFI and like some of their sigs, some of our corp members have reportedly seen strange formations of cargo cans spelling out their name in the voids of space.
These hooligans must be stopped. Their behaviour and anti socialism will only result in drop cans being placed around your home station that will undoubtedly spell out nasty four letter words.
Though we have only witnessed the letters XFI - i am sure that their devious demeanours will no doubt start to spell slogans of inpropriety.
Naughty XFI , naughty

Edited by: Shock on 30/07/2003 13:03:45 Bogusheadbox, don't be such a whiner! Do you actually plan to smothering originality or does it come naturally? Bet you are just jealous you didn't come up with something like this.
I case you didn't know what this is about: here's a screenshot and it can be seen next to the New Caldari - Nonni gate.
I think it's one of the coolest things I've seen in EVE so far. A brilliant piece of advertising on behalf of X-Factor Industries.
And as long as not everybody is going to do it I think this is pretty harmless. You shouldn't be afraid for too much copycats or entire sentences since I guess making something like this is a lot harder then it looks and problably takes quite a while.
Also you can see to who the can belongs to (unlike the grafitti you are so quick to refer it to).
But before everybody starts dropping secure cans everywhere: CCP is not likely to do something about this if it are only a few cans, but when it becomes a real nuisance they are likely going to come up with a measure that will again have more impact then planned, so be warned!
Hmmm, you might be right Disc, if you are, I guess was a bit too quick to judge :P --- soonÖ |

I actually watched a guy dropping the cans at one gate, I had to laugh, he was in a Megathron, it must have taken ages to do.
I wondered if that what was Battleships were best at ?

Actually, a GM convo'd me about these cans and asked me to remove them. When I then asked how many people complained, the answer was "Only one so far". In contrast, I have received many, many positive comments and praise in Local chat and through eve-mail about this, thanks for that :)
As for using a battleship to make the signs, the cargocan jettison distance varies per ship, and this distance is significantly smaller for a battleship than it is for an industrial. This makes it much more easy to accurately place cans, otherwise youll end up re-jettisoning each can many times to get it in the right place. A cruiser or frigate would even be better for this but their cargohold isn't large enough to hold any significant amount of cans.
There will most likely not be any more 'graffiti' of this kind on my part. I have made one at each entrance to Nonni, and that will be it. My goal was to do something no one else thought of, and I believe I succeeded there. I realise the potential mess this idea can cause, and it's prolly likely someone will go and copy it, I can't stop that. It's likely someone else would eventually have figured out this idea if I hadn't anyway.

A humble request to members of XFI and anybody who feels like being a copycat.
Please take it easy on the graffiti. AFAIK, secure containers will last forever wherever they are dropped. I knew just one complaint would stir up trouble. I and lots of other players (I'm sure) would not like to see the devs step in and "fix" the secure containers. I thought it was a little funny and clever...the first time. Then I saw another one...not funny anymore.
