I well remember the first burn Jita event and the reasons (CCP) leading up to the event. However, What are the reasons for this seasons buring? Just the anniversary? Yes, I know that goons will be goons, but my observation is that while goons act in a goony way they often act strategically in large events. So what are they up to besides having fun? Burning isk for CCP? Pay back for some slight or sin? The Mittani getting his revenge for last years embarassment? Or just being Goons? Yes I know that it is much more than just goons, but what is behind it? Or am I giving too much credit to the planners? |

I seem to remember Burn Jita 1 being announced well before Fanfest. This is EVE - Everybody Versus Everybody.

1- Its necessary to keep the goons happy internally and it reinforces the us/them culture 2- its useful to manage the attention of the game environment, positive or negative 3- its useful to manage the attention of the market external to the game environment (both for the aims of the Mittani site and = new players so for CCP and the game in general) 4- it is a demonstration of projected power, effecting immediate player experience and the market

I hear that some people actually like shooting spaceships in EVE Online, a game about people in spaceships shooting spaceships.

1. Goons need to keep there hordes happy, with atleast something. 2. They want to go to Fanfest as "the talk of the town". 3. They bought up part of the market for weeks now. 4. Freighter / JF pre-production. 5. .....Goons don't even know what there doing.
It's Eve be happy something is happening, reports even come in off ganking in Amarr space. http://heavysteel-inc.blogspot.nl/ |

Jimmy Crikket wrote:However, What are the reasons for this seasons buring? ... Burning isk for CCP? Hello there! I'm contractually obligated to inform you that this event is not removing ISK from the economy at all. While I'm aware that the concept of "ISK sink" is a difficult one to comprehend, Burn Jita is not one.
Here's why: Pilot Goon A buys a ship off the Jita market. He is now down on ISK, but up on ship. But that amount of ISK is not gone from the economy: Whoever sold that ship now has the ISK (except for the NPC fees, which you may correctly consider an ISK sink, albeit a very small one). Assuming that Goon A is not a full-on ****** (which is entirely unrealistic, but let's still do so for the sake of argument) and doesn't insure his ship, no more ISK gets removed. If he does insure his ship, then there's another ISK sink because the insurance doesn't pay out on suicide by cop.
Now let's say we use 30 Brutixes to gank a freighter (you need about 22-25, but let's add a slight buffer). Each fitted Brutix cost about 60m ISK when we bought supplies, but let's be generous and say 70m. Worst case, that's 52.5m ISK in fees for all of the 30 Brutixes.
An uninsured freighter pays out something in the region of 300m ISK I believe (I'm sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong).
That means that every freighter we gank is a net ISK injection into the game of (at least) 250m ISK. Of course you may also calculate build slot cost for the stuff, but you'll still not end up with a net sink. |
