Edited by: Spy4Hire on 24/09/2005 14:24:07 One thing that has always confused the utter hell out of me...
Why have a starting bid of (in this case) 100m if you're not even going to consider it a 'sale' unless they meet the reserve 1.4b? I mean... WTF bother at all, just put it up for 1.4 or 1.5 and be done with it?
Auctions have always confused the hell out of me... 'opening bid' and 'reserve' (WTF reserve anyway? So you can back out without selling if the price is below value? It's an *auction* for petes sake.)
Anyway, /rant.

Encourages bidding and free bumping so the seller doesnt have to do it themselves until the price they want for it is reached...

Reserve typically means the price at which he guarunties to sell the item if the bids reach that high, but that if the bids are still under reserve at the end of the auction he "reserves" the right not to sell, but still might.
Thus a final bid that is still below the reserve price might still result in a sale, but he reserves the right not to sell if the bids don't exceed that price.
