I feel very sorry for the people who are getting CTD twice every hour or so.
I had a huge problem after some patch 6 weeks ago or so, my PC rebooted (blue screen for some) occasionally and I was not finding any reason.
As stated elsewhere it was discovered that our onboard soundcards (A97) were a factor that mostly everyone had in common. I bought a new soundcard and have only had one CTD in the last month or so.
I now seem to have the right drivers to run EVE and am naturally thrilled.
How about those of us that fought the CTD/BSOD devil and won state how we did it, we just might help others.
My hardware: Pentium IV 2.4 Ghz Sparkle GeForce 4200ti 128mb SoundBlaster Live! 512MB DDRAM
Problem: BSOD Solution: Bought a SoundBlaster Live! card and use instead of A97 onboard soundcard

aye, had that same problem.
People get really defensive when you tell them its a hardware problem, when someone says 'sounds like a hardware problem' it does not mean you hardware is at fault! It means that the game has problems utilising the drivers effectively for your hardware and the game code needs to be adjusted to support your hardware.

my onboard soundstorm audio (ac97) was also causing the problem - bought an Audigy II - problem solved :) ------------------------ "The direct use of force is such a poor solution to any problem, it is generally employed only by small children and large nations." ------------------------ |

I get constant CTD's every since beta phase 4, but since 2 days ago I started recieving nv4_disp.dll blue screen errors instead.

Edited by: Deunan on 30/07/2003 21:49:03 There's a nice guide on the Stratics site for SWG for testing and configuring your PC.
Clicky
Good info therein, just ignore the bits that pertain specifically to SWG.

try using different Nvidia drivers.. In the case of Geforce, newest driver does not always = best driver..
you can try out tons of them by visiting guru3d.com

I too had a CTD problem, although mine came from the combined use of EVE and my TV tuner, either the sound or screen overlay was at fault there.

Every game I've ever played... I noticed that people who overclock and truly dunno what they're doing, use the via chipset, or the ac97 sound chip are destined to have massive problems being able to run anything consistently..

So I can't figure out how to shut off my on-board sound in XP. Any hints? I don't even use it but I get the hard reboot crash all the time. :(

To deactivate the on-board sound, enter your Bios and check for a option propably in the Chipset menu. To enter your Bios, hit the <Delete> when your computer start up, as soon as you see the first characters appear on your screen.
I hope it help.
<Edited> CPU overheating and bad RAM configuration can also cause BSOD and CTD. Be sure that your CPU fan is powerfull enought, and that you are using high-quality memory like Corsair with the recommented configuration. Do not mix-up different types of memory on the same motherboard. </Edited> Valrandir --------------------------------
