Hell to all.
After 4 months of playing Eve, i think theres something wich is almost an exploit. The Local channel thing.
I mean, everyone in a system automatically appears on it, leaving no room for surprise nor many strategical deployments that couold be done, with surprises aswel. You enter a system and automatically see whoever is in it, wich is a joke.
I would like to sugest that players could be able to close local chat channels and not appear on it as a method of improving this grave fault in eve playing system.

I actualy like it. I can see who will become my next Victim. If its in low sec space of Course.. I dont find it a bad thing.. Its not like they can use the Local chat window to find you at a belt or a planet or jump gate. all they can do is a hundred warps around the system. Werewolfmage |

Yeah... Like a free cloaking device of sorts. Except your opponent doesn't even know your there to hide. That's the kind of realism that if applied to more aspects of Eve would make the game all but unplayable due to the resulting "no fun" aspect of gameplay. That change would only be fun for the hunters, not the hunted.
You ever notice how you play video games when you're looking for something better to do then real life? Try not to take the game too seriously!

its a lame carebear feature ...
sure there should be some sort of replacement eg. some sort of scanners however the local channel is a gamebreaking feature!
the same rule applies to instas ...
if you guys dont grasp that dont post at all plz...
this game and their players will stay here for years but that is impossible with npc grinding ... think about comsos and tech 3 production all of that WILL be 0.0/pvp content ...
this game is about pvp and for that to work properly we desperatley need the removal of instas and local chat ... sure you should be able to scan a system and be able to nearly insta jump to the next system but you have to sacrfice something for it ... otherwise it is simply not worth it ...
you cant achieve something within a few weeks in this game and this should stay to be so... this is it what I call fun ...

'its a lame carebear feature ...' actualy it is a balance
'sure there should be some sort of replacement eg. some sort of scanners however the local channel is a gamebreaking feature!' I am thinking that if we put some sort of new feature in ther for this it would cause HUGE lag.
'the same rule applies to instas ...' getting rid of instas would make it impossible to trully travel around. I personaly know that this game woudl be boring if i spent 90% of my time traveling instead of taking a quarter of my time.
'if you guys dont grasp that dont post at all plz...' this person posted an question.. let them post without the hostility
'this game and their players will stay here for years but that is impossible with npc grinding ... think about comsos and tech 3 production all of that WILL be 0.0/pvp content ...' what is your question with this statement?
'this game is about pvp and for that to work properly we desperatley need the removal of instas and local chat ... sure you should be able to scan a system and be able to nearly insta jump to the next system but you have to sacrfice something for it ... otherwise it is simply not worth it ...' Uhm.. no.. this game is NOT about pure PvP.. this game is about having fun in a manner that you can deal with. if the only way you have fun is PvP.. this game allows you do do that.. If you have fun starign at a blip in your screen while watching your hold fill up with important minerals (ie mining UGH!!) then go for it. this game allows the development of both types.. and works for both ways.

so right-click on local, click on "blink off", go back to corp-chat, and never look at local again?

I think the nly time you should'nt apear on local is if your cloacked finally give cloakcing devices mor eof a reason to exist.
The local thing works both ways though its easy if your careful to see danger coming often but not always which I have used to my advantage many times but I have also used the advantage of local to find targets, I think if local was'nt there it would be too hard to find targets especially in empire wars.

I think the local chat window should be an option,
I have two views here good and bad,it's a great tool to see if the system is hostile however, this is bad for the hunter as the laim campers that jump into empire from 0.0 to ulitmate saftey and it's good for the laim campers who wan't to know when they have to run from an fleet smaller than them.
I am so so sick of seeing the wimps attacking lone haulers and running when a few frigs come into have a go.
If local was to be more like you speek on it you are then seen on it.
I think that local channel has great potential to ruin fleet battles as more and more people are flying ships that they can only insure for a fraction of the cost so have more to loose.
I have no doubt that people are going to read my points and then flame them, but you have to ask your self, if you really want this channel, is it because it gives you a major taticle advantage, There is no other reaso that I can see you would want it.
I also want rid of this channel as I am sick of the tarded people that look in local and start spamming and smack talking coz he was kicked out of your corp for been as much good as a mining barge in combat. Let's face it there are a few Children out there that finish school, jump into a system and smack all day because they really have nothing better to do. I know blocking is an option, but these same tards are normaly the same people that wright stuff in local that was intended for gang chat.
For the record these are my opinions and not proven facts, so please don't quote them in a cort of law!
If I could spell I would have a proper job!

Local chat is used to mediate issues between players. Identify incomming friends or foes. Shoot the breeze with other players.
A personal combat edge agenda while nice also ignores the other uses of local chat. I am sorry if you dont use them but some of us do.
For helping with in system gankings well carry on, but be aware what ever information your avatar carries gives away your potential intent. So from that aspect it may be better to start a thread to have avatar information severely restricted in local channel, such as only showing your name. Removal of the occupants of a system from local can be done in 0.0 since hardly anyone is there. But to do so in higher empire spaces is a bit of a pain.
As to carebears, I would point to the relative numbers of ppl located in 0.0 vs empire.
While termed carebears it is blatantly obvious that the player base of the game doesnt care for 0.0 much at all, and if you go by pod kills and ships destroyed in empire you will see quite a bit of combat occurs in high security empire space.
So while termed carebears, it is obvious to anyone who so desires to actually check the map to see that the carebears are quite bloodthirsty a bunch. TotensBurntCorpse Likes EVE, Starfleet Command Series, Earth & Beyond, Anything Battlefield, MOHAA, Call of Duty.

This idea has probably got to be the worst......u only want it to be an option to not show in local bcos you are a carebear hauler thats wants to fly safely......well thats how it is...u show up in local as u enter the system and that shouldnt be changed...or else everyone would turn off the local chat so they cant be seen and that wouldnt be right

Edited by: Afonso Henriques on 29/09/2005 11:32:10 Actually im not a carebearer. when i posted this idea was because i believe that beeing able to close local chat would make the game more insteresting and much more rewarding to team effort.
Now you can say.. ya but then haulers could flight through low secs more safely since noeone knows they entered the system and so on.. i think thats good since it would boost the number of people using low sec systems, instead of having the majority lagging some hig sec systems like rens and such.
Most players would welcome it. Not only carebears but solo or small gangs of pirates and/or corps looking for a kill.
you could cross aliances controlled systems much easier too, thats a good thing imo.
big corps and / or alliances wanting to control their systems would need to start making scouting teams to scan who is entering the systems etc.. really would improve the way players use 0.0 imo.
