hey guys, i originally put this in the wrong area of the foum i think, so ill just paste it all here. any advice would be helpful.
"hey guys,
first, i wanna say a hearty well done to CCP. over 5000+ viewing at this time and thats awesome.
i however am not able too. i bought the HD stream already, and it kicked me right into 1080+. thats awesome, but it was just a tad laggy, so i went to 720 during the hosts chat at the start and it was super smooth. then the event went to start....the numbers shot up and now even on 240p i cannot watch the stream :( i get a screenshot of it appear now and again but there is no streaming involved at all. occasionally i get a black screen aswell.
i am aware that on stream with high population they can employ a throttling thing. is this the case?
my internet connection is ample. i mean i was 720p streams all the time, the most recently being yesterdays Q and A with the Dust guys. it was flaws....but then again, there wasnt 5000+ people watching it.
i tried restarting my browser, restarting my system and updating flash. what else can i do? i know the issue isnt with my internet connection here.
it will be such a waste of a plex if i cannot stream the weekend :("

"just an update. i have now watched 5 different game stream of populations ranging from 383 people all the way up to 2000+.
at 720p....super smooth. so, its down to the factthat twitch throttles streams at hi population. either that...or its a CCP issue. but im not thinking that so much. it could well be the server from twitch that im connected to maybe? or the one that CCP is setup streaming to perhaps? i dont know how their archetecture is set up.
any thoughts?"
edit : on the flip side of that, i just went onto a stream for league of legend with over 7000 viewers, and another starcraft heart of the swarm with just short of 9000 viewers on the feed. lagged like hell at 360p. |

"another thing that shows this is more likely to be a twitch issue. its not uncommon http://help.twitch.tv/customer/portal/questions/842162-video-buffer-and-lagspikes - http://help.twitch.tv/customer/portal/questions/717769-choppy-videos - http://help.twitch.tv/customer/portal/questions/785451-audio-and-video-on-all-streams-stuttering-as-of-today-" |

Final part written abotu 10 mins ago
"once again, i was watching the 720p stream for the even today. great event.
was fine for about 90minutes, and then i started to get lag spikes. i checked my bandwidth monitor and my downstream traffic was erratic. so i tried a LoL stream at 720p, consistent traffic coming down my line. this feed had 2800 viewers.
the eve fanfest (as of just now) is sitting at jsut over 4500 viewers, and its stuttery at 480p. This is a stream issue. Maybe not CCP's, but Twitch's. This is not an unknown thing for them, and the forums on their site are full of this kinda issue. "
any advice would be very much appreciated :D |

thanks for the reply.
i was using firefox. i also tried chrome and IE (as if IE would work :P) but unfortunately nothing really changed.
currently im watching in 360, and 5791 viewers, and my bandwidth monitor is telling me that im receiving a max of 0.5mbps from twitch, and its lagging, and then jumping forward to catch up.
edit : just to add, my streaming everywhere is still fine (own3d, youtube etc) |

The biggest problem is often the routing of the stream from the twitch servers to your computer. Refreshing the stream a few time sometimes works, at others your just Sol and the routing is bad (either a long route or subject to throttling somewhere).
*edit* also want to point out that this is why even if you have the fastest domestic internet you can get, streaming media will not always be smooth. Also adding that it's not always the fault of the streamer, as it's not their choice how the data is routed to you, they have a little control but no where near enough to ensure everyone gets a perfect picture. |

i understand that its likely not a CCP thing. there are plenty of people in the stream who are fine at 1080+. which is great. It is likely the routing. i contacted my ISP, they of course said that there isnt any routing issues that they are aware of.
your idea about restarting the stream is an interesting one, but i have already tried it but to no avail. i guess i will just have to utilise the VOD to watch them as they are updated in the video section :)
edit: i just refreshed again....im in 720. 6277 people in stream....well, thats cool :) ill see how it goes :P |

It's most likely your ISP. The majority of ISPs temporarily bottleneck your bandwidth when you download too much in x amount of time. At least that's how it is in the UK. |

i am in the UK. and i am with BE ONLINE. they dont shape traffic or bottleneck. refreshing the feed worked. however my system just crashed, so i gotta do it all again :( |
