Now this isn't a moan as much as a question mark...
The disparity that nearly lost me a Bestower full of ore just is the fact that the pirates seem to have better stuff than what is available to players at present.
The nearest rat was 22km away and afaik the best current disruptor is only 20km.
I was lucky in the fact that I logged out right away and the ship wasn't destroyed.
Now the question is, shouldn't the rats have the same kit as what we do? Or at least can obtain by killing the rats? -------------------------------------------

Are we talking player pirates or npc pirates here? Although remember that npc pirates drops can sometimes be better than player produced. And a 10% increased range on an item is not that uncommon.

Check the database, NPC pirates have 25k warp scramble range which is greater then anything players can currently get thier hands on.
But, knowing that, you can plan for it.

NPCs literally cheat to counter for human cunning.
1. They have virtually unlimited targeting range. I've been targeted from as far as 180km by NPCs.
2. They have 12+ points sensor strength for all types (requiring 4 multispecs to targetjam 1 NPC pirate)
3. They have infinite ammo and infinite capacitor.
4. They use missile launchers even when their ships don't have the slots to equip them.
5. They just literally spawn.. bit unrealistic.. If it was warping in, it would be better, but now they just spawn on top of you and immediately start firing/jamming/etc.
Did I miss anything?

Edited by: Von Thoma on 31/07/2003 06:31:46 ... hhhmm and what the case here ?
They are still a bunch of crap without challenge.
Anyway they are in some way NOT cheating compared to our friends the PK Pirates, who using every exploit and bug they could get their hands on.
PS: ANd I don't have any Battleship
NPCS are only a matter of using the right shields that's it ... have no problem to kill a formation of up to 3x 50KIsk Pirates and this are the strongest in the game at the moment.

Remember some ships have a bonus to warp scramble range with every level..I know that's not the point, just stating! ---------------------------------------

At the moment the only way npc pirates can do damage above 10km is with missiles. So if you just keep a safe distance the usually aren't a problem. Although 5x angel predators can do some serious damage with their missiles, but you should try to see the damage they can cause at a 5km range and on top of that they usually propulsion jam you at that range. Well my point is that it's much to easy to keep a safe distance which makes them no challenge at all.

Edited by: drunkenmaster on 31/07/2003 10:54:55 they may be impervious to ECM, have better modules than most of us (which they don't drop), but they are idiotic. This makes them weak and easy.
They also don't use any mods to counter what their attackers are using, ie, an afterburner to keep up/catch up, No shield boosters either. Nor ECMs.
If they did, the difficulty level would increase exponentially. .
