In most other mmorpgs you can fight each other and 'kill' each other in a duel mode without really dying.
I think this should be in EVE as well. Would be very cool if you can just test fight other guys in a 1.0 system that are not in you're corp. Maybe the devs can also make an option to form 'teams'.
There is something like that in the game Star Trek: Bridge Commander, they set phasers and torpedoes to 1/1000 strenth, and then simulate damage and all that stuff.
Would this be really hard to add? Good or bad idea?

See Arena gladiator style combat ideas from the past, also somewhere on the in development pages I believe.
Forget about it being simulated tho, you'll die allright, or at least the ship will.

Sure, if you're allowed to kill and pod the other player. No thanks to wow combat.

Both parties are docked in station. They enter a combat simulator and choose the ship they want to simulate. They agree to fight eachother in the simulator. And that's that.
This is actually a very realistic addition to the game. In RL, pilots would spend countless hours in simulators before they would roam out and engage enemies. How does it make sense for a pilot to hop into a battleship and head out to combat if he's never even been in one before?

Cause like, he's just like, graduated from the naval academy ?
It's not about it not being logical or possible. It's about it being something that does not fit into this game, period. Forget it, combat without consequence will never be part of Eve.

The fact is that PvP in EVE is saposed to have an impact on your gamelife. Any function that allows complete PvP simulation with no risk/reward sytem in place would really cheapen the game. I say Yea to arena and gladatorial events on a tournament basis, and Nea on Dueling at no risk to ISK, SP or pride. I believe such a sports tournament properly sponsored by CCP, would cause development of Team-Corps dedicated to the games. Players of all PvP intrest levels could participate for prizes and fame. We might even get to see a face other than bounty heads on the CONCORD billboards. Itd totaly be like those robot mortal-kombat shows except on a potentially massive scale. Or if the DEV's feel balsy, new station controls for placing bets on teams or particular pilots in various events.. maybe make stocks have a use..
All sounds cool to me, but i'm no programmer or corporate director... so what do i know..

the people saying no seem to be concerned that it would replace current pvp. i dont see that it would. if anytyihng it would increase "real" pvp since more people could hone their skills and would then be more likly to venture into the black to fight properly. No simulator can ever make you feel the tension as you are risking your ship in an attemt to take out the enemy.
Id say it would be a good addition to the game. If gladatorial style events came in then i think you would see 2 different classes. 1 class of people using the simulator with no risk. and another class who DO risk their ships and modules for fame. the latter would be much more fun but obviosuly less people would participate.
i dont see how this addition could be bad for pvp, all it would do is get more people interested in it.
