So today i placed a bid on a toon, i also sent a mail at the same time offering a tiny bit more for a buyout. About ten minutes later i got a reply accepting the lower bid and asking for the isk to start a transfer immedialtey.
I of course asked for a post on the thread to say he had accepted the bid before i went ahead and paid, thought it was a bit odd to take the lower amount as a buyout but meh. After getting no reply i checked the msg one last time and thats when i realised what had happened.
Someone had created a new toon, with an almost identical name and portrait after seeing my bid and sent me the mail to try and scam the isk out of me. Now this is a pretty easy scam to spot but its important to know about this, for a newer player it would not be to hard to press to quickly desperate to not lose the auction and instead lose allot of isk.
I know its the wrong place for this but i think exposure to scams is always important.

Im not sure if you can actually petition this as nothing has happened, but it would be so so easy for someone to lose billions of isk so so quickly and all out of game via the forums which im pretty sure violates the EULA

This just happened me but I sent it to the real character instead, I petitioned it immediately after realizing the mailer wasn't the character. |
