Hi Guys, I've tried to find the full explanation on the forums but there are a lot of posts discussing this andI couldn't find a clear answer...
Last night I was happily travelling along minding my own business (I'm a trader) when I got attacked by gate campers. I was about 5km from the gate on autopilot so I was just trying to make the gate. I fired back at the guy who attacked me in the hope it would buy me some time to make the gate. Got to the gate, not allowed to jump because of my "aggressive actions". End of ship.
Is this right? I wasn't the aggressor, he fired at me first. I fired back and I couldn't jump. Is that the way it works now?
Thanks for helpful replies, I really want to understand how this works.

Any act of agression, I.E. using a hostile module causes the 30 second delay known as a "Jump Lock".
Everything hostile... guns, scramblers, jammers, NOS, etc triggers it.

It goes both way's. Firing back is an hostile act.

You cannot jump if you have agressed anything in empire, this even applies if you use EW modules. So just use speed and a tank to get into jump range of the gate.

Thanks for the replies guys, at least I know where I stand now. Don't seem fair to me though - I just wanted to trade peacefully, now I got to find 30 mill ISK and a load of playing time to get back to where I was. I hate pirates who can't find anything constructive to do with their time, must be very boring being a pirate.
Off to hide somewhere else before I get flamed.

Its unfortunate you were on the wrong side of this measure.
But imagine how bad it would be if people sat on the gate and shot you. If it looked like they'd lose, they would jump. This measure prevents that.

The problem is not just pirate greifers that attack and kill anyone and everyone at gates, but the carebears that whined about it so much in teh first place they got sentry guns in low sec empire.
This now forces pirates to destroy you rather than what we did before, which was lock you down and ransom you, you pay a small fee and are left to go unharmed. now, we don't have the time to lock you down cause the sentry guns greif us. It really is a catch-22 Check out my "billion isk website" where you can "buy" pixels on my homepage to advertise YOUR website. |

I had this happen as well. A band from Karnival of Death locked me at a gate so I figured I better shoot back. I could not jump because I fired and they subsequently killed me at the gate with me hitting jump as many times as I could to no avail :). They must have know I was a fumbleing newbie since I took forever to warp my pod out, and then when I was safe, hit autopilot - which took me right back too them . I messaged one of them and asked what happened and they gave me some general tips (no specifics though, I cant blame them), nice enough guy for a murderous pirate .
If I had not fired, I could have ran the gate since I was moving really fast (Destroyer with AB+OI) and was hung at the gate for a few seconds before I finally went down.

Well it makes sense that the aggressor shouldn't be able to do that, but why does innocent me get penalised?
Anyway, i think this topic has been done to death on these boards, just wanted to find out exactly what the score was. Thanks guys. Anyone who wants to take a pop at Jocool is welcome to by me after last night:)

If you dont enjoy what you are doing then change it. You made it sound like what you were doing was such an unwelcome burden. Theres plenty of non-grind and creative, yet honest ways to make ISK. Get creative and say No! to grinding.

It was constructive. He got to see an explosion (gaming satisfaction). He also got loot (economic reward). On a macro level, he created demand for a ship and mods. He created jobs! Thats constructive.
What were you doing that was constructive? If it was npc trading then you did NOTHING!!.
If it was trading of player created items then he created a demand for things you probably sell.

The gate aggression timer favors no one and everyone. It's a part of the pvp gamesmanship. It's very much required to even make pvp possible as others have said.
You lost 30 million.....that's an extremely cheap price for learning this particular lesson. Alot of people in this game pay much more for "learning events."
