______________________________Imagine you just finished painting what you felt was a masterpiece. Amazing detail to all aspects of your vision, brought to life on canvas. Imagine putting your piece up on display, where thousands of other art enthusiasts are able to view it. Now imagine the only comments you receive are negative. ______________________________
Although it is really important for us to criticize their product, and let them know what we feel is important (yes we are paying for their work), itĘs also important to give them some motivation and inspiration (other than dollar signs). To be honest if I was part of the development team, I wouldnĘt want to check in on the forum. It would be too depressing. I hope they keep in mind not to take our comments personally when we do express our frustrations on the forum.
Why donĘt we each bring up three points that we feel Crowd Control Productions have done really well on? If they do read these forums, then IĘm sure they would appreciate it.
= ONE Server (Yes I know its multiple servers, but itĘs great the entire community resides within one universe.) = PVP Freedom (There arenĘt many game companies ballsy enough to do this. Most just cower at the mobs of carebears and their pleas for no player-conflict gameplay style.) = Amazing Environmental Settings (The graphicsą well do I even have to say it? And the ambient sound is just amazing.)
I could go on, but lets hear what other players have to say.

Game balance.
I'll probably get flamed for that, but overall the balance in the game is not too horribly bad, and if you look at what it was at release, the improvements are incredible.
I've never played a MMOG before where such drastic combat changes were introduced without breaking the gameplay and forcing a removal of many of the 'fixes' in subsequent patches.

They are adding bugs to the game. This keeps me annoyed. I like being annoyed. They are doing this right. ---

Pluses:
Less buggy and iritating than all the other Multi's out there
One server
Helleva lot of potential
And if you actually stop to think about it, quite an achievement.
Minuses:
Too many teenage whingers who have the complete inability to be constructive
CCP not focusing on the important content issues the game needs, ie a working market
apart from that,

Back in the pre-beta days, CCP managed to create a fantastic ambient thanks to the background and the information released. Things like the INO, the old EC, DP, Krath, SekGen, OS, Sabaoth, TTi, etc... For me there's no doubt that this game has had the best pre-release community ever. Even if now I dont like the game as much, I cant but thank CCP for the fantastic time I¦ve had here. - Karunel Hagensray Ex- Journalist

There¦s one point almost everybody in the eve-community ignores when flaming CCP:
They NEVER made a game before. Not CCP, not any of their Devs.
They had experience with VRML online thingies (it¦s obvious, if u look at eve¦s GUI). That¦s all i know.
Now seriously: U buy a game - made by ppl u never heard of - published by an oldschool Print-Publisher....what the hell do u ppl expect? This game is a RUSH - it¦s an unbelievable ACT OF STRENGTH AND FAITH to get a bunch of talented developers and just MAKE IT REAL. The budget is laughable compared to other popular games (Freelancer, SWG, all Blizzard blockbusters,etc.). CCP took such a high risk to do EVE that some of u would rather **** their pants than participating in such a project.
For that, the game AND the so-called "poor" customer support is brilliant. I never had the chance to actually MEET one of the game developers IN GAME! Now i have it - and more. I¦ve been waiting for this game since 1990 (good old ELITE).Thanks CCP! FANTASTIC WORK.

Considering they have never made a game before and when you think of the size of the project. They have done a very good job, yes there are bugs and customer support maybe a bit naff, but that will improve given time.

I think the game is fantastic, bugs and all.

Edited by: Alezander on 31/07/2003 09:00:46 Being a programmer myself (buisness not gaming) , the fact that this game works as well as it does is nothing short of brilliant. Sure there are bugs , balance issues, ect ect...ccp is developed by humans, not powerfull godlike flawless beings. They make mistakes, the game is new, the scale of the game is massive, be patient.Being right fresh out of launch, things at ccp are probably chaotic right now. The best thing to do is weather out the first few stormy months, and be constructive instead of whining and crying about every little flaw.
In my opinion, CCP needs to temporarily hire freelance programmers (ME) to help add content(ME), or iron the bugs (ME), or help design AI for major event(ME), so that the CCP programmers will actually be able to implement the features that were originally planned in eve and turn the currently stale enviroment into something amazing.

Edited by: Rimmon Alaster on 31/07/2003 08:59:38 Ship design in this game is awesome. Every race has an individual look. Gallente ships are smooth and shiney, Caldari ships have that industrial look, Amarr ships are....gold. Minmatar ships however... They look like they were made from parts salvaged from a Caldari debris field and welded together with mining lasers. But that's their look, and it's unique.

EVE > All
Honestly, having played like every MMP, Eve is a better game than the rest.
Of course, this leaves out AC1 in the first year...that game just rocked =) Too bad they ruined it with corporate interest, etc..

They created the most atmospheric Space sim in history.
I never expected I'd like EVE more than SW:G. But I absolutely love EVE, consequently love CCP for making it and I want to have Jon Hallur's children.

The fact that CCP never produced a game before has to be taken into account, the fact that EvE works is impressive.
I also think that many people don't realize also, how big of a challenge the single-server view of the game world is. If it was easy, how come the big budget guys haven't done it yet? Sony? M$? Quite an accomplishment IMO. |

+one universe... thats just kickass, but also makes it harder for them as they cant open new servers in 2 months on a new universe with none of the imbalance like pirates with 10.0 SR, extreme amount of money from start-up ninja mining, crazy convoy loot etc
+best graphics... nothing more to say here
+the interface... god i love it, how you can resize everything... yaaaar
-little experience in managing a MMOG... i thin kthey should try to hire someone from other MMOG, someone experiented, to give them tips s/he learned by experience :)

It's great to use time to train the skills. I can have a more laidback playing style that doesn't stress you out like in so many other MMORPGS (why don't we just call them MUDs?)

Well the Back-Story for the game is very good. And the Universe itself is quite vast. I appreciate the scale of the solar systems and the fact that there is variation from system to system. The differences of the races, and their respective technologies, is a good aspect. The Skills system is a vast improvement over the Level up grind of most MMORPGs. All told it is impressive work for a small company like CCP.
Now I just wish....(never mind that should go in another thread )

The idea of combining non-combat and PvP experience into one universe was impressive and I really think CCP have pulled it off. Other MMOGs skirted the issue and tended to split up both sides, CCP envisaged a world were they could co-exist.
CCP were also brave enough to challenge the levelling mentality of most MMOGs.
The moaning from both sides about balance was inevitable, but the changes that have been made bring this idea closer to reality. People will often mistake the game for what they expected, and will complain.
The only shame is that many good ideas have been waylaid because of the potential to abuse them for griefing, Interbus is a good example. But again CCP has endeavoured to make most of the ideas work, albeit in modified form.
CCP is only guilty of naivety in regard to the atypical MMOG player, but on that count it is only with extreme hindsight you can complain about the issues that were absolved.

I love EVE. It has many great things about it. I like it so much I pay to play it when there are many games I could play for free.
I have to disagree with the little blurb at the start of this post though.
<<<Imagine you just finished painting what you felt was a masterpiece. Amazing detail to all aspects of your vision, brought to life on canvas. Imagine putting your piece up on display, where thousands of other art enthusiasts are able to view it. Now imagine the only comments you receive are negative.>>>
It would read more like:
Imagine you were half done painting what you felt would be a masterpiece. Amazing detail to many aspects of your vision, most of which brought to life on canvas. Imagine advertising your piece as though it were finished and charging thousands of other art enthusiasts to view it. Now go on vacation once everyone is in the room. What kind of comments do you expect to recieve?
Never mistake effort for results. As soon as you start making promises to people and charging them for it you need to expect to hear about it when you don't deliver what you said you were going to deliver. ----------------------------------------- Sig rented by Drethen Nerevitas. |

This game is great, it has gotten in my top 10, not an easy feat since I have wasted away in front of:
1) Starcraft (best game EVER made) 2) Wing Commander series 3) Street Fighter II (Arcade) 4) *****Strike, 5) Fallout 2 6) Space Invaders (Atari 2600) 6) Diablo II 7) Dark Forces 8) Final Fantasy Series 9) Golden Axe 10) Grand Theft Auto III
There are more, but only these have had the addictiveness and kept my short attention span interested as Eve has.
Devs, you have achieved greateness, now be like Blizzard Ent and stick to it.

- One universe: just awesome, you know if your buddy joins, you can actually see him, you dont have to coordinate, etc. Plus when this game grows, it will be much more exciting.
- Real time skill learning: you can actually be still playing the game while at work/school/sleep! Need I say more?
- Most importantly POTENTIAL: this game has the most potential for long term play than anything I have ever seen. There are some bugs and what not, too be expected in a game this large. CCP is making headway through a lot of issues and coming out with lots of great content. Also soon as people get to the point where they arent so scared, we will start to see more PvP action, especially on a large scale. Most of the games out there are somewhat solo, this game relys heavily on teamwork, and that really makes it more fun in the end.
Good job CCP! ---------------------- There is no such thing as a stupid question, only stupid people. |

it's an MMO sequel to the Elite series, what more could anyone want?
PVP is the best feature. Send the CBs to E&B. Warping to a location and seeing the + marker of NPC ships is fun, but it's nothing compared to the rush of seeing another PCs [] marker and wondering if you're about to glad you bought that clone upgrade.
I'd like to see some 0.0 systems in the Empire constellations, and not have to fly all the way to the rim for them. Hurrah for EVE and CCP! |

1. One server...awesome cause u never have to read any crap about politics on another server.
2. No need to macro/constantly repeat to raise skills...us hardcore gamers who dont have the time to play 20 hrs a day like we used to in older MMPORGS (read: UO) appreciate this.
3. Designing (hopefully implimeted soon(tm) ) lots of new game content.
.............................................
I hope this game becomes as addicting as ultima online.
