My old GeForce 3 Ti 500 died on me, so I had to buy a new video card ...
I bought a GeForce FX 5500 for a good price, installed it without any problems, and everything works fine, except EVE ...
When I try to launch the game, I have the splash screen that takes a bit to go away, but when I come to the screen where I should type my password, it's all weirdly shimmering with red and blue lines everywhere ... I can (barely) type my password (small blue dots instead of the usual white ones) but after that I get a blue-ish screen with nothing selectable ...
I read somewhere on this board that I should revert to an older version of the drivers, but I can't find one ...
I was a bit surprised to find that the only FX card not on the "tested and should work" list was the 5500 ...
Can someone help me please ?

Just because it's not on the tested list doesn't mean that it won't work. Doesn't mean it will either, lol. Try this help page: Video card information for EVE
If you need to download drivers from nVidia, their main menu gets you to the download page for the latest driver. However, to the left in the middle is a link the the driver archives where you can get older versions.
Good Luck...

Thank you ... I'll try a few of those "archive" drivers, and hope that one allows me to start EVE.

Had something like that when i installed a fx 5700 no matter what i did drivers etc but found the solution altering a few bios settings (cant remember now)but relating to the agp obviously
It works well now so if them drivers dont work maybe u can try that avenue.
Be wary with the settings tho and write down what u change so u can change it back if needed
Good luck

Some Graphiccards need that u deactivate Fast Writes in Bios or go down to AGP 4x that will help against many problems mayby yours too.

Well, I tried every single driver on that "archive page" over at nVidia, without any progress ... with some of those, the shimmering lines are green instead of blue, but that's the best I could get ...
I'll try playing in the BIOs ... *crosses fingers*

Drat ... I was already in "Fast Write disabled" and in "AGP 4x" ... I tried playing around, that only made it worse, my computer locked and rebooted when I tried to launch EVE ...
Seems like I threw 50 euros for nothing ...

I finally nailed it ...
My motherboard can only support an AGP 4x card ... I had to get back to the shop and swap the FX 5500 for an ATI 8500, re-install some drivers, and I can finally launch EVE.
