There's often things said about cyno, mostly covert cyno, about how it's unfair and all that. But people doesn't agree much on what to do. I'll offer something else, a way to nerf them without doing anything to the gameplay at all : make so people see them on your ship, like any high slot module.
Some guys check the fitting of an enemy ship by looking at it, why not making so you can also see if he has a cyno fitted? If the guy is pretty careful, no one will see him before the engagement. But the prey will have a chance to react in time ; he will have a pretty short time to see if this guy have a (covert) cyno or not, and consider if it would be better to (try to) warp out. Obviously, some guys can also tell on intel that they saw X had a cyno.

Honestly, do you always fly with a ship scanner and a passive targeter on your covert ops ? Even so, why decloaking ? And what if your first cycle doesn't show everything ? How to be sure you're not missing something ? G££ <= Me |

The point is you can already find out what they have fitted. If you don't want to work for it, then you'll have to accept the larger risk later. Malcanis for CSM 8. No, it is relevant. Because the point that is being made is that it is impractical to fit the scanners and just because it is technically possible to find out doesn't mean that it is practical. |

Have to agree with mags here - its often (not always) but often possible to anticipate when a ship is cyno fitted and the game does give you the tools to work with - albeit maybe not the most ideal for every situation.
A lot of this is situational stuff and messing with that reduces a level of possibilities for interesting gameplay. |

In any case, CCP will probably eventually add models for previously unrepresented modules. |

Why is this needed? If they're alone, ALWAYS assume they have a cyno. Especially if they're cloaky. |

Yes, I have a COVERT cyno an my ship, and of course it will be VISIBLE on my ship...
Apart from that, what the above said - guessing at the risk threat and using the tools that are already in the game and without a 100% chance of success is probably a lot more interesting.
For every game machanic someone does not like, there is likely another one who likes it. So a nerf that would be good for one is likely to be equally bad for someone else.
Unless something is imbalanced or detrimental to game fun of a majority of players, a nerf shouldn't happen. |

This. It just makes good sense.
I don't think we need them as models on the ship. With the current mechanic you can only tell what another player has if you uncloak, lock them and scan them (with the exception of weapons or any actively used module effects). What you're proposing is to allow cloaked ships to gather even more intel about other ships' fittings.
