The server down time will still happen. Just becuse the server had issues before. They are not able to perform the duties at downtime when the server messes up. Think about it for a minute.

Look - just because ONE hamster hurt it's leg and they had to reboot while they got the replacement installed in the wheel, it doesn't mean the rest have to miss out on their lunch. Give the rodents a break |

Good Analogy.
DT = Prescheduled Maintenance = More Consistancy

Besides, if there are problems, thats all the more reason to do the maintenence so it gets fixed properly. I'd be Unstopppable.. if i could just get started! |

Making do without daily downtime was tried once, a long time ago. You'd hate what happens then. |

*shudder* don't remind me, I'm still having nightmares of the stories of the beta test guys, and I also remember once when DT never happened... I think we are still suffering aftershocks from that one day..... One of the devs for the new Future Falcon Suite of Eve Tools, visit us here

Downtime is required do some general maintenance on the servers to keep them running "smoothly". Somtimes there are problems leading to server reboots and similar, this can be due to a huge number of reasons and is an unavoidable aspect of a setup like eve.
It still amazes me that some of the people whining here act as if the devs enjoy these sorts of problems. Get over it and just be patient.

Technically they could have just delayed starting the servers back up and run the DT tasks then. But maybe the DT tasks weren't set up ready to go that early? Maybe they wanted to run the server for a bit to check it had settled down again before starting a large DB task like DT?
Or maybe they just wanted to get it up again as quickly as possible for those waiting to get back in?
You can do anything. But you can't do everything. |

*Shrug* You realise that at this very moment you're pluged into the biggest collective of easily accessable electronic information in the history of the universe? You could, y'know, find something else to do for an hour or two.

Speaking about the server... This is the SECOND day I can't log in. OK, I managed to get in at midnight, but I just set a training skill and went to bed.
And NO, it's NOT a router on the way. It's the server that is slow and won't let me in.
Now, I don't know what to do. I'm loosing gametime for which I payed. And the "ask a question" doesn't seem help too. Argh!

I do hope you'll close your question when the servers do come up?
It's nonsensical questions cluttering up the queue, demanding the attention of the GMs, that leads to petitions/questions taking so long to answer....
Try any of the other MMORPGs out there, before you complain about server stability or unscheduled downtime issues. You'll be pleasantly suprised when you see how good Eve is on that score.
Personally, I'm happy for them to take as long as they need on whatever the current issue is. Just as long as the servers are up when I get home from work later

Don't get me wrong... I have nothing against a downtime here and there. As the old saying goes: sh** happens.
But if I can't connect for 2 days, then something's rotten.

Ever thought that the things they do on a reboot are not the things they do on a downtime?

Edited by: Vaugue on 29/09/2005 13:12:10 There is this awsome thing in forums called stickies. I think the original poster needs to take a pill and read Wow looky here a sticky thread found at the top of the general forum.
At least CCP ackowledges thier customers when they have issues and persue the issues, and even give specific information regarding these issues. There is a few MMO companies out there that will do anything in thier power not to take blame or admit they have issues, or try to convince you it's your problem not thiers. *cough* SOE *cough* They have told they have load issues and hardware is orderd.. relax and spend some time with your family or friends (if you have any)or do the dishes or something.
