I propose the overall Industrial endgame content: Industrial Supercaps
they would be able to either refine, compress, built or research, depending on the new modules that are available .
they have HUGE ore and material bays, organized like corp hangars (several divisions), plus ship maintenance bays ... but: only industrial ships (barges, exhumers, industrialists and their T2 variants) can be stored there.
skills will be to increase hold size increase max prod / research / slots increase mobility (it barely has any of course)
jump-capable. provides boosts like the rorqual.
an industrial mothership so to speak.
what does that mean ?
a real endgame, mobile industrial base allowing to built modules, and subcaps up to BC class (and their T2 variants) wherever you want. of course slot numbers and such would have to be determined,. but imagine the possibilities it would provide for roaming industrial corps. ninja-minining and such is all over sudden a real option.
ganking one of those would mean ultimate tear-waterfalls.
flame away.

An industrial supercap is an interesting idea, but I can already forsee a few balancing issues with trying to find a role for it that the rorqual or jump freighter don't already fulfill. Granted, not being able to dock is a pretty damn good balancing tool, so maybe that could be a big part of it.
To be honest, I don't know enough about the modern day use of rorquals and orca's to comment on whether there is a need for a industrial super cap or not. |

the main difference between the suggested ship and the rorqual would be real assembly lines. the ship is not meant to transport or compress, but to serve as a mobile production facility.
real nomadic lifestyle for industrialists, resupply right on the frontlines ... that kind of crap.

This would be a great idea if you could balance it out. Being able to fly a Super Indy ship is an awesome idea. Keep it like the other supers where it cant dock and people would be able to live out in those non station low secs. Or live in null sec areas where your not allowed to dock and mine up the ore. As long as we have enough build slots and some research slots i think this would be one hell of a ship to fly.. also.. omg the tears when this thing dies. |

I demand an ORE Titan that can fly around in high sec and blow up planets with its doomsday, and mine the resulting debris. |

Not being able to dock would be the best way to balanced.
Hell, let it even build capitals (not super caps). Transporting the mats for it to build those massive of ships would actually be a rather fun logistical challenge, if they are not all from mined material. If you parked it right outside a station, so freighters could undock and dump mats in it would leave it quite vulnerable to attack. Much tears, best tears.
If you want to further enhance mining game play, give it a doomsday for a comet. Basically, you can have comets be like ore sites, where you have to warp in a super industrial to hit it with a drill-ray to brake it into pieces, then others can mine the pieces. Of course, like a Titan, it should have to sit there for 5-10 mins while using the mega drill-ray. Maybe you can even use the hacking mini game to "cut it into pieces". Meh
It wouldn't overhaul the boring mining problem, but it would go a long way to help it. |
