Could some one please show me the path in which ships go?
i.e Frigate->Destroyers->Crusiers->Battleships
Not sure if that is correct.

Capsule - frig - dest - crui - bc - bs - Capsule af and hac u can learn when u desire, lev 5 cruiser is soo easy to get! :)

There is no correct path, you have to choose ships that best suit your playing style, and probably your income.
The example you gave is reasonable, but I'd add battlecruisers between cruisers and BS, sliding scale and all that.

As far as tech 1 ships go, it's:
Frigate ---> (Destroyer) Cruiser ---> (Battlecruiser) Battleship ---> Dreadnoughts
Industrial ---> Freighter
The reason destroyers and battlecruisers are in parentheses is that you are not required to train them to get the next non-parenthetical shiptype. Industrials require you to train frigate skills first, but, as non-combat ships, are not in the general ship progression.
For tech 2 ships, you have:
Interceptors (small, ridiculously fast ships designed for the tackling role)
Covert Ops (only ships that can warp while cloaked; also only ship that can fit a covert ops cloaking device)
Stealh Bombers (frigates with cruise missile launchers and a bonus to cloaked velocity - require the same skills to fly as a covert ops)
Assault Ships (aka assault frigs) ---> Heavy Assault Ships (aka assault cruisers, or HACs)
Logistics Ships (cruisers with bonuses to various support roles)
Transport Ships (industrials designed for blockade running)
You'll note that, of the tech II ships, the only ones that have a true progression within the tech II paradigm are the assault ships, wherein heavy assault cruisers (HACs) require you to have the Assault Ships skill trained to 4 before you can learn Heavy Assault Ships. Another note about HACs is that they generally fall somewhere between battlecruiser and battleship in general power-level; depending on setups, they can even be BETTER than a battleship. -Wrayeth

Actually, to be more competant and "ready" for your ships I'd advise
frig - cruiser - assault frig - bc - bs
Assault frig forces you to train mechanic and engineering to level V which in turn helps ship fitting and longevity.

I have to agree with Deja I got my enyo and ishkur so I could do lvl 3 missions(big ships are so not me), and I learned a ton about how to make these little frigs even better
both thru skills engineering and mechanic are required, but add hull upgrades/shield skills(depending on which AF you use), cap skills, gunnery skills, weapon upgrades/adv weapon upgrades, drone skills(ishkur), etc.
and thru fittings, you can't just stick X# of the biggest damn guns you can find on something and expect to win all the time
each time I gained a skill, I learned something new about my AF's |

It all depends on your preferred playing style. I went straight for battleships right out of the gate. I've got this thing for firepower for some reason - large explosions = GOOD! (Was I a pyro when I was younger? Hell yeah, I was! ..and still am!)
In any case, the two things you always need to remember are:
...only risk what you can afford to lose,
and
...do not take your battleship out of dock without full insurance (helps with the advice immediately prior).
