EVE Universe: Origins trailer shows multiple scenes of ships warping.
At the beginning, of the ships leaving Earth, they accellerate a LOT faster than ships currently do, along with that flash coming from the engines.
And near the end, where the pilot is in warp, then stops and immediately arrives on the battlefield without seeing it from a distance first. I LOVE THAT.
CCP, please make this happen for real in the game. "Punch" warps are way more awesome than the "slide slowly into grid" warp. Less yappin', more zappin'! |

F&I is that way -->
50/50 on this one. if they made the tunnel more opaque you'd probably get a similar effect... One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia |

Not intended to be a F&I thread, merely a discussion about something seen in a trailer :) Less yappin', more zappin'! |

yeah im not sure id like that either. The slide in helps load the stuff graphically if there's alot and also gives you ample time to totally soil your self when you realize that group on scanner wasn't friendly..... When I watched the trailer I just thought warping looks so damn boring right now. In the trailer they just "blitz" away, way way faster than it is ingame. +1 for this.
ps: I hate they pimp the graphics in trailers. If you watch a trailer you think "wow that looks so cool", when you are excited after watching a trailer and login you just think "aww that looks bad". |

I would have to go with no on that.
I love the way warping works and looks, the way that as you say, you slide on to the grid... Its just perfect.
More so when warping to a station off a large moon, when the moons stops moving but you are still moving fast then the station swims into focus, gives a real sense of the vastness of space I think.

not to mention that most of the warping is from the perspective of "not the pilot of that ship" as it is right now, if you watch someone warp away it works exactly like in the trailers.
they're aligned and at speed, then flash from the engines, and they're gone. One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia |

n.b. if you have brackets off, then when a ship you're looking at warps off, the "punch" effect is already pretty noticeable as they disappear into a single pixel pretty damn fast. If you have brackets on this effect is ruined as they persist at the "horizon" point for a while.
You can see it in all it's glory here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=sGobBjJPJKk#t=104s
If you're fussed, you probably really want to ask for CCP to just auto-remove brackets from a ship going to warp - "Do not touch anything unnecessarily. Beware of pretty girls in dance halls and parks who may be spies, as well as bicycles, revolvers, uniforms, arms, dead horses, and men lying on roads -- they are not there accidentally." -Soviet infantry manual, issued in the 1930's |

yeah, a lot ... there's no "slow motion" from the ships (in the scenes I'm thinking of)
right before the first bit of the eve gate, you see a few ships aligned to "somewhere", just burning in the right direction until their warp drives kick in, then they disappear. That already happens (if you're aligned)
When they get to the eve gate, you see them decelerating for a bit, coming in from off-camera. This also already happens, if you're zoomed in enough.
The last warping scene (the capsuleer) looks more like it was caused by a more opaque warp tunnel than anything..
thing is, for the most part, the trailers are zoomed in close to the camera anchors... it's only in game (where we're zoomed out and looking at the entire grid) that we don't see things like this... One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia |

Agreed you shouldn't "Slide into grid" you should pop into combat just like the FTL jumps in Battlestar...that'd be so awesome.

Confirming that this is a completely insurmountable problem and there is simply no way the graphics caching could be adjusted to compensate. |

The whole speeding up and slowing down from/to full warp speed has been discussed quite a few times. They have said the only real reason they haven't tackled this issue is because of the complexity of the code involved.
Going to and from maximum warp more quickly would make most people's gaming EVE Online gaming life a bit better. Also, ships with faster warp speeds will have a much pronounced advantage over slower warping ships. I have remember times when a ships 3 times faster than me in warp would arrive at destination pretty much at the same time as me after warping at the same time.
The trailers always show this ultra fast warping effect, but of course the in-game warp is far slower. If only ships went into and came out of warp that fast!
Hopefully CCP will get around to changing the code to allow for faster acceleration/deceleration from maximum warp. Maybe then things like the hyperspatial velocity rigs will become more useful. Maybe someday.... |

Agreed that the punch effect seems much cooler.
I also prefer the tweaked warp tunnel effect in the vid too. |

I think this again comes down to just how old and crappy a lot of player computers are. Basically they are running into hardware issues client side and code issues server side. Both of which are due to upgrades.

I would like to see the amount of memory on the average graphics card for someone in eve.
GTX 550TI 2GB here and usually only using 408M, perhaps a static memory cache would help this with ship models preloaded? |

It's incredibly advanced Terran tech - consider that we see them warp directly from Earth to the EVE gate.
The other warp would be awful - It's important that I can see a fight for that extra second before I become actually involved in it. |

in the trailer they kinda stole that effect from the new star trek movie if you remember they just popped out of warp into the battlefield. If you can find it anymore ccp once had a video showing battleships just jumping from o m/s circa 2003 |

it would be fun and look cool for the people staying on grid watching others come and go, which makes me think...
What about an option to watch yourself warp, which you can do now but 'look at' switches to your ship when you activate so it doesnt work. What if this was fixed and the animation for a player leaving was sped up? would that work?
