Ok, this is a stupid question, I know, but one IŠve got to ask.
IŠve got a Vexor, and got it loaded out in the following way:
4x Mining Laser I
2-3 Afterburners - Medium Shield Booster
4 Cargo Expanders
Now, the stupid question is: What weapon can I put into the 5th hard slot, to give me some protection on my mining runs. IŠve got combat drones, but was wondering what other weapon I could use. Am I right in assuming that I can only put missile launchers in the 5th high slot, or could I possibly fit some other kind of weapon?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i'm not 100% sure about this...
you could try fitting a smart bomb, the info for a vexor says 5 hi-slots and only 4 turrets, no missiles, so all that leaves really is a smart bomb.

The vex cannot mount launchers so the only real offensive weapon that is any use against pirates in this slot is a smart bomb.
For mining protection in a Vex, use a smart bomb in the high slot by all means. Be carefull when you set it off though, especially if there are others about.
The best defensive mining setup in a vex is to get that drone skills up to level 5 and then get the heavy drone skill.
I usually run 2 harvester drones and 4 heavy combat drones in my vex. That usually takes care of all roid pirates down to 0.3 with ease.

get your drones skills up up up.
That is what the vexor and thorax do well.
If you dont have good drone skills, switch ships cause the drones make up for other weakness's.
If im in high sec space, I use 8 advanced mining drones, and fill the rest of my drone bay with warriors.
If im in low sec space, i use hammerheads.
when there are 4 vexies mining, all with the ability to use 8 drones, 32 hammerheads causes a lot of damage very quickly.
If im out pirate hunting - i use 4 wasps and 4 warriors.

Beware of smart bombing your canisters if you use a smart bomb while mining. A corp mate of mine blew up 15000 omber while defending himself from pirates with a smart bomb. We have banned smart bombs in our mining operations now.

Yeah, if you're mining, a smartbomb will only end with you crying- either over lost drones, lost cans, or lost ships (as Miner626 flies over near the big ship "for protection"). Rely on combat drones for defense, and stick some kind of utility module in that hislot... there are a couple "neat things" you can find that you might find interesting to try out.
