I heard this was a bannable offense.....
If I take a freighter or orca and fill it with a thousand shuttles, I heard if you jettison them, they will assemble in space and create a thousand empty shuttles in space. Causing lag. Therefore bannable.
Confirm or deny?

Well I did some small scale testing on an orca. Apparently you can load up the main cargo bay with shuttles. Assemble ships. Put them in the Ship Matainence Bay and then launch them. I suppose if you had a 1000 shuttles, you could quickly go through the process of launching them all. I guess the question is that bannable?

Last I tried it, Jettisoning a ship from your cargohold assembled it in space.
Right Click Stack > Jettison with a freighter could get you something like 1900 Shuttles in space all at once.

Freighters no longer drop assembled ships, people are kind of mad about this and the same happening for pos maintenance bays. Really want to **** off some freighter suicide gankers, salvage the freighter wreck before they can loot it and anything bigger than the capacity of a jet can will poof =) |

IIRC correctly it was done on the Jita undock, caused a massive lag bomb and thus became a bannable offense overnight... but this was back in the day, when we actually had lag, not like the pretend lag you kids have got. Our lag had character. It was lag that respected it elders. Cruise missile Breachers... nano Ravens... this used to be all fields... etc... |

Do it in Highsec then use a smartbombing ship right after you launch said shuttles. Also make sure the shuttles are owned by someone outside of the corp you do the smartbombing with.
Also doing this may or may not get you banned.

Completely unrelated...but...
It used to be somewhat common practice to carry shuttles in your carrier bay. In the rare event of jumping to a POS with bugged aggression settings, launching the shuttles could buy you enough time to warp off (the pos could cycle the warp disruptor to the shuttles).
I remember (2009?) hearing a pilot on comms die to a bugged allied pos while being called an idiot for not spamming shuttles to get out.
It was also not uncommon to find deathstar pos with bubbled warpins and hundreds of shuttles, similarly with gatecamps. Which is why they fixed it, not to mention the server load. |

Yes kids, back in my day, we had to do things like that to get a fireworks display.

I believe the event you're referring to was Maruu Navorra who had received a large number of assorted ships from a friend who quit the game, and he was launching them from his Orca a handful at a time outside the station in Arnon. I was in the crowd, and managed to grab a couple little goodies, a battlecruiser, a minind barge, some frigates and destroyers.
I also distinctly remember the imagine of an Orca launching a full cargohold of shuttles, and the mess it made, although I can't remember if that was the same Orca, or if it was just coincidentally an Orca launching ships, and it was someone else doing it for a different reason.
As a side note, there is this urban legend (it's not a myth, I have the pictures if you ask nicely ;) ) of Maruu Navorra filling his Orca with POS modules and flying it way out into nullsec, and the ensuing pirate attack, or should I say feast.

That's the event - there were several.
Such a huge "bait ball" of pods. Would have been epic if someone came in with a disco BS - would have racked hundreds of pod kills. Would have sucked and been hilarious to get podded that way. But that too might have been bannable (so it was said).
