I remember when discussion boards used to be for asking questions about the game system (except of course General Discussion). Now, all people want to know is, "What is the best load out for...", "What is the best trade route...", How do I make isk pirating...", "Is there isk doing...", "What is the best trade good...", What is the best ship...", etc.
These questions imply that: One, there is some item, or activity that IS the best. Second,by obtaining that item, or doing that activity you will 'win', or somehow 'complete' the game.
These questions remind me of a discussion on a board for a game scripting language. These (I'm assuming) young posters, instead of reading the manual or trying to learn the language slowly, kept asking questions like, "How do I make it so the character loses stuff when he goes through the door, but only if he doesn't have an item, and then how do I make it so he can only get his stuff back if he kill this creature?". To which someone (a helpful, regular poster) replied. "What? You didn't see the 'Make Game' button?".
When someone posts 'questions' like, "What is the best way to make money trading?". What they are really asking is, "Where is the 'Win Game' button?".
My answer is, "Why don't you play the game?". I'll give you an answer to a question regarding the game rules/system. But I'm not going to tell you how to succeed in the game, or how you 'should' play it, or what to do.
So please, to those 'What is...How do I...' posters: Play the game. Find out for yourselves. I'm not saying that to be an ass, but part of the fun is discovering how to succeed and trying different activities.

An *******? I don't think so. Patronizing? Probably.
I guess this topic isn't as interesting as two corps flaming eachother.

If people want to "play to win" then that's how they spend their dollars.
Some people buy a regular PC game, instantly look up all the cheats, finish it in a weekend and move on. Their entertainment/dollar ratio is very low, but that's their choice.
The "play to win" style doesn't agree with me, I'm too lazy and haven't got the time to invest anyway, but I certainly wouldn't question that line of thinking.
There really should be a "Win Game" button, but you'd still get some goit posting "Hey I logged in and pressed the Win Game button and now I've won so what do I do now ?"

Competition is embedded in our DNA, the instinct that brings us to want to climb the food chain for the survival of the species, some just have not been able to controll it as much.
And yes, flaming, although I don't enjoy it here, is better than *****ing.

We were all newbies once, plus once you start a game with powerful people running around in huge ships the natural and nicest way to get to know the game's inside and out is to talk to people, that is why its a MULTIPLAYER game.
Also: The manual is USELESS
And: Help a newbie today, find a powerful ally tomorrow.

I'm feeling the heat...but
Daesdemona, I'm not talking about competition and I'm certainly not saying, "Stop asking for advice." I said I am more than willing to answer questions about the game and the game system. (I know the 'manual' is useless.)
I'm suggesting that players should try learning the game by discovering the 'best loadout' themselves. Isn't that the fun? Don't you feel proud when you find that profitable trade route? That great market for ammo?
Perhaps I stepped into the trolling zone, but I posted this to discourage "giving away the clues". I accept that some players just want instant gratification. They paid thier money so they can play the way they want.
Again, I'm not talking about questions regarding rules and how the system works. I'm talking about how to play, and "What do I do next?".
