Well took the dive earlier and had a bit of pvp and did a bit of exploration ......then lost my catalyst to being webified and warp scrambled and finally blown up lol and to be honest I kinda felt a sigh of relief that I had lost my first meaningful ship as now I know what it feels like and can move on.
I know a lot of people will say it was only a catalyst but it was the best ship I had up till now, but as I said it feels sort of good that now I have lost my best I know what it feels like.
I guess thats what I love about this game is the unpredictable nature of it, so just when you feel safe .... boom lol
Oh well need a new attack ship now for a hopefully cheap price :) any suggestions? |

Frigs are the way too if you want to pvp. In EvE, you will lose your ship sooner or later, there is no escaping this inevitable end. If you pvp, you will lose it sooner. For this reason alone, most people use frigs for pvp.
You can use any of the T1 frigs for pvp, they are very cheap and will help you get tons of experience. In the meantime, if you are serious about pvp you should work your way up to Assault Frigs, they are quite good. In solo pvp anything bigger than a dessy is gonna get blobbed very fast.
In short, use cheap T1 frigs to pvp. Most FW fights also done with frigs. |

if you are doing PvP then I can recommend 3 cheapo ships for you:
- Incursus: slow but has a mean active tank. If you can drop right on top of someone or be where they come out of warp then you can usually outlast them in a brawl.
- Atron: fast but fragile. With normal skills you can turn this into a cheapo interceptor that can be used very effectively with others. When your skills become very good you can turn this ship into an anti-frigate gank ship.
- Tristan: this ship fits somewhere between the above two. It can't active tank like the Incursus can and it can't go at the speeds that the Atron can... but it can buffer tank better than both while dishing out solid damage. This ship also relies on drones to deal damage. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

Before I give ya ship recommendations ...do you have your overview set up and do you know how d-scan works? The ship is of little importance until you can see what's on grid with you easily and can get an idea of what's off grid but close to you by using d-scan. (on grid means they are on your overview)
I can't find my usual video for d-scan that doubles as a rickroll but I skimmed this one and it looks ok: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-7L3Jj2GUGg
And here's an overview guide. Don't be overwhelmed it isn't as hard as it looks and this page has tons of info you probably don't need yet. You need a general tab for rats, gates, player ships, stations, combat probes and anything else you want. A combat tab for just player ships and something to choose when you know you're going down to spam warp to so you don't loose a pod (gates is what I use so it doubles as a travel tab although gates aren't the best gtfo destination for a ship). A drones tab for knocking down drones when you have to. And I prefer a wrecks tab so when you do pick someone up on d-scan in an odd place you can see if they are sitting in a safe spot or maybe in an anomaly/mission.

T1 frigs, very cheap If you want EWAR, then Griffins, which every Griffin you fit should not go above 2 million ISK (so you can lose tons of those and not worry about) Combat frigs tend to be a bit expensive (more than EWAR frigs, but still cheap) due to guns and ammo, but in general cheaper than dessies If you spend a while with PVP, work for T2 guns first, then T2 AFs which are awesome for solo and fleets
As always and everyone say to new players: find a corp in FW space, best place to fly small ships and get lots and lots of fights Newbie?, want to shoot ships? see here: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=169575 |

This is not necessarily true. Many cruisers (especially shield fit) are faster than most destroyers and nicely expand your engagement profile. Why would you not use an alt to post on the forums? |

You can even get Thoraxes/Vagas/SFIs go about 3km/s+ if you do it in the right way Newbie?, want to shoot ships? see here: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=169575 |

Thanks for all the advice everyone!
ye I think frigates are most prob the way to go, I think I have a tristan which I have never used in my hanger I think I will have to fit it and bring it out. |

I haven't flown a tristan in ages, this is a completely untested fit and will have limitations with what you can engage but it should do ok with slow, short range brawler ships. Afterburner fit frigates mostly. Don't mess with other drone boats.
If you get near a web and scrambler you're a dead man. If you're going to the belts land at 50-70km. If someone lands in there with you don't get jumpy and go strait for them. Get the drones out and start establishing range...if you can see on the overview that they are faster than you...bug out fast. You want to end up orbiting around 16-17k from what I remember with the guns but just check it with your skills...the guns don't matter that much the range is more important.
There are "better" ships to use but this one should give you enough time to react and if they are scrambler fit you should be able to escape if they are winning so you don't loose a ship every time you mess up with target selection. Leave the drones when ya have to the tech I's are cheap.
Zero the Hero Tristan
Highs 2 - 75mm Rail Guns (faction Iron ammo)
Mids 1mn MWD Long Point (warp disrupter) Small Cap Booster (200 boosters)
Lows Damage Control 2 - Drone damage amplifiers
Rigs 1 - CPU rig 2 - Polycarbon Engine Housing (you can play with this one just don't bother with cap recharger rigs)
warrior or hobgoblin drones
I'm no EFT warrior so I dont know the exact numbers on it but I'm sure someone will come along shortly to tell us why this is a terrible ship. Good luck |

This is my standard Tristan fit.
[Lows] Damage Control II 200mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I Micro Auxiliary Power Core I
[Mids] Limited 1 MN Afterburner I Experimental 1 MN Microwarpdrive I Faint Epsilon Warp Scrambler I
[Highs] Light Neutron Blaster II (Caldari Navy Antimatter) Light Neutron Blaster II (Caldari Navy Antimatter) (empty)
[Rigs] Small Anti-Explosive Pump I Small Trimark Armor Pump I Small Hybrid Burst Aerator I
[Drones] 5x Hobgoblin IIs 3x Hornet EC-300s
Stats: - deals about 170 to 180 DPS - has about 5000 EHP - burned at about 2100 m/sec with the MWD and about 800 m/sec with the Afterburner. - completely cap stable
Notes: - needs almost perfect fitting skills. - you can downgrade the guns to Light Ion Blaster to free up fitting room. - downgrading the guns to Light Electron Blasters allows you to fit a small Nosferatu... use Void ammo (if you can) to keep your DPS up (the tracking bonus on the Tristan offsets the tracking penalty of the ammo). - you can use Warrior II drones instead of Hobgoblins... this will give you more options in dealing with kiters but will deal less damage.
Tactics: - use the MWD to get in range - once you have applied the warp scrambler deploy drones, switch to the AB, and orbit close. - overload the AB and guns as required to maintain range and kill stuff fast. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |
