Is a modulated deep core miner better than a miner 2 if not mining for mercoxit?

Yes, but only if you fit the relevant mining crystal

Ignoring skills, a Miner 2 pulls 60 m3/minute. Mind that this is superior to all T1 beams, even if the CPU load is more painful. MDCMs, without skills, pull 65m3/min with T1 crystals and 70m3/min with T2 crystals. With the wrong crystal, or no crystal, it pulls as fast as a Miner 1.
Note that this is IGNORING skills. With skills, it's closer to 95 m3/min for the M2

I have full mining skills and using DCM2's on my Domi I get 304m3 per laser with tech 1 crystals and 328m3 with tech II... so its a touch over 100m3 / minute. If in doubt shout... |

and that alone is a right royal pain in the ass. Try staggering 8 MDCM IIs on an apoc so yer cargo hold doesn't fill up. Brought back the memories of mining with 5 miner IIs in a thorax all those many months ago. I basically sold the MDCM IIs and went back to miner IIs, a LOT less hassle. ___________________________________________ http://www.eve-tutor.com

If are able to mount >4 Local Hull Conversion Expanders with the MDCM IIs (and crystals) then the Apoc's cargo hold will not max out after one 3 min cycle.
Just out of curiosity what else did you mount with that Apoc/MDCM II setup? The real challenge is to find the optimal decisions, which maximize the expected values of specified variables resulting in the most desirable outcome. Praetor Novak - CEO |

yes its 304m3 and 328m3 per 3 mins so as I said a touch over 100m3 per laser per minute.
Yes you have to stagger them as well.. it is a pain in the butt, but it does a very good job at getting the minerals out of the rocks... and I like the fact that I can run a full tank plus all heavy drone with a mining drone compliment and not be worried about single BS spawns or webbing/scrambling frigates etc... eventually everything dies but me... :)
Even had a Player rock up in a zealot wanting a fight the other day.. I just packed up my drones and headed to another belt where he couldn't find me... :P If in doubt shout... |

I might ask, what are the relevant skills that maximizes the efficacy of the Miner II laser?

The Miner II reaps rewards resulting from recognition of the requisite Astrogeology and Mining skills.
Sorry, just had to try it :D

Braaage, did you have any luck with that?

Edited by: Rim Rider on 25/10/2005 00:25:25 having just tried this myself, i was really disappointed.
It works out that its 3 mins quicker for to mine a full can using DCM2 than using M2. (with T1 Crystals).
Personally, ill be sticking with M2 for the basics. Saves the hassle of changing crsytals and im not limited to certain rocks within range.
Only use for DCM2 will be the high end rock.
