I don t know if anybody brought this up:
Is there ANY way to disable the screen shaking feature when entering/leaving warp. It causes me huge headaches and is generally extremely bad on the eyes.
If anyone has a prefs.ini setting to disable it please tell me so. Otherwise i urge CCP to make a switch for it, as i hate having to use aspirin after an extended EVE night.
Regards, a customer. |

Seems to me the extended night is responsible for this I often spend my entire night 'shakin' and then I dont need aspirin too.

I m not going to let this rest. And no, it isn t 'all night.'
Even in quake or doom i can switch off 'camera bob and roll' This is the most annoying shortcoming regarding EVE for me. |

Sorry but I love it too, it makes it more real. If you really have headaches with it, you may have some health issues maybe... seriously, it is not normal to get headaches with that.
Hope you get well.
PS: Im serious.

If this is causing problems for people they should add in a way to turn this off. Just because it is cool for some does not mean it can't cause probs for others.

The reasoning for the shake is because, if you were able to ready any of the backstories of EVE yet, you are viewing your ship from a secondary camera drone. This camera drone, like the hull of your ship, undergoes a tremendous adjustment in speed that requires a lot of inertia stabalizing. Similar to an old car shaking and creaking at 65mph and then leveling out smoothly at 75mph.
There is no way to remove this, but I fail to see it as a "short coming". Try zooming out to minimize the amount of your screen that appears to be shaking. ------------

FFS, give the guy a break. This isn't like he's whining about gate campers or anything. Turning off the warp shake effect, while less immersive, doesn't provide one player an advantage over another. There's really no reason why it shouldn't be possible for a player to disable it, other than the devs haven't really thought of it yet. This kind of thing also isn't uncommon at all - Half-Life 2 causes motion sickness for some people who are otherwise completely unaffected by other games.
As for the OP, I'm not aware of an option to disable the shaking. Zooming out might help, also enabling VSync might be of use - it won't stop the shaking but it will prevent tearing, which distorts the screen further.

I have noticed that when I warp out of deadspace, sometimes all warp effects will be disabled, the shaking, and the tunnel. I remember i reproduced the tunnel going away by switching the game to use the w-buffer as opposed to the z-buffer, but I dont remember if it effected the shaking as well, its worth a shot tho. I cant check, at work right now (forum mongering ftw!!)
as a general comment, I think useability issues like this are a big deal, alot of people has different sensitivities, and conditions like epileptic shocks from flashes and the like, no reason they should be excluded from the game or anything else. option to disable it is the obvious solution, everyone wins.

Edited by: Thrassus on 18/10/2005 03:43:07 Heh, when I first started SWG I used to get nauseous and sick killing creatures. I finally turned off the ground shake from when they fall and no more problem. I'm not having any problem in EVE and like others that posted I like the shaking when you warp, but it is a horrible feeling to play for a few hours and walk away nauseous. It's a real issue for some and seems to vary from person to person, game to game.
