I was wondering if there were going to be any more fanfests that maybe breached out of Iceland? It's a pretty expensive country from what I can see for all people who don't actually live there. For most of us USA players it's like 2 grand just to fly there then it's like mad expensive just to eat a mcdonalds heh.
It seems that mostly the Fanfest is trying to appeal to the players in London/DEN around those areas. It's actually wayyyyy cheaper for majority of the players in the US to actually fly to London or somewhere round trip than it is to fly to Iceland.
So I dono if it was even mentioned before or anything. But wouldn't it be much cheaper for everyone to maybe having a Fanfest in London or something where not just half of the people can afford to make it. SO everyone in EVE can have a more reduced flight pay to better make it over? I dono if that would cost CCP more to actually fly everyone to london but like it's just an idea. Something about paying 1800 bucks per person + hotels that are like 300 a night + FANFEST TICKETS! This is kinda putting a damper on my wanting to go to Fanfest and meeting other players and staff.

Forgot to mention. From here all the way on the east coast of the US. It's only 650 bucks round trip to fly from Raleigh, NC to London. So like 650 from 1800 is a big diffrence. Maybe more with a cool flight package?

I'm all for other Fanfests, but we were able to get tickets to Iceland for ~$700 - and that was from Chicago. We had to go to Boston first, so if you're on the East Coast it'd have to be cheaper.
For that matter, maybe the US players should start talking about having a get together over here, eh? Either on its own, or maybe associated along with another con...?

I got my tickets from BWI (Baltimore-Washington Airport) via the iceland airwaves package. Total cost: $580 for three nights at Hotel Cabin. You're getting ripped off. ________________________________________________

Orbitz: http://www.orbitz.com/ Altho at this late date it might be pricey. The prices were actually better a few weeks back, but I was having cash flow issues.
Also, we're staying for 10 days, so that may have some effect on the pricing.

A couple things on this topic. I booked my flight to Iceland a couple months back and the round trip (10 days in Iceland) was 650$. That's out of LAX via Minneapolis/St. Paul. Booking this close to the departure date will be hideously expensive.
Part of the problem with setting up a FanFest outside of Iceland simply boils down to logistics and expense. If you think flying into Iceland is expensive, flying out of Iceland is worse. Iceland also has the advantage of not needing to fly equipment and swag around. The staff is already there and familiar with the locale.
Now that doesn't rule out other venues and gatherings. I think it is likely that the CCP@GDC: Drink with the Devs party will happen again in 2006 and there might be something big slated for E3 2006 as well.
We also try to support player gatherings that we are made aware of. The EVE Radio ****-up last month coincided nicely with the Euro GDC and some of the Devs have taken a day out of their vacations abroad to attend a player gathering in the area.
If you want support for a large player gathering, send me an e-mail ([email protected]). I do have a small budget with which to send swag out to player gatherings, as long as I have at least three weeks of advance notice.

Maybe if someone put together a US fanfest there would be no reason kieron couldn't make it alone and we could all pick on him _______________________________________________

Thanks for the reply Kieron. I just hope one day the CCP team can do something in the states. I hate trying to compare "Eve-Online" to a horriable MMORPG like "Dark Age of Camelot" again. Like I suggest with the weekly "Dev Question/Answer" thingy. But they have like a tour kind of thing where a group of the staff travel nation wide for numrous gatherings. Just hoping maybe to get CCP out of Iceland for something similar hehe. I never wanted to actually attend a Dark Age thing because it's only a game but Eve-Online is obviously much more. I prob have to pay them the price of plane ticket just to get them to read/reply to a topic like this. So sad...
