I'm at a crossroad in skill training... And I want to train for one of these specialized frigates... Mostly for lvl 2 missions.. but I want to have some fun too.. you know, like pvp and whatnot!
So I'm wondering what type of ship to train for.. pros and cons are good.. and any real advice you could give me that will help me in choosing between assault frigs, covert op ships, and interceptors would be great!

For mission running Cov Ops will be useless, Interceptors will be fairly ineffective because their damage output will be relatively low. Go for Assault Frigates for missions.

I see...
but what exactly are the interceptors, and assault frigs designed to do? What are they capable of destroying? and what is their role in a battle? (same with covert ops)

Covt ops- spying
Intys- fast tackling and high dmg, low hps
Assaults- slow highly armored frigs, better for npcing.

Yes, I suppose the assault frig would be the one for me. And considering I've been training my drone skills for what seems like an eternity.. I'll get myself an ishkur.

Assault frigates also are a requirement for Heavy Assault Cruisers which are the ****nit!!

Interceptors are fast attack ships, but are fairly lightly armored. Assault ships are meant to slug it out and take down smaller ships like inties and frigs. Covert ops are highly specialized and really have no place outside of combat.

Here's my advice: Assult Frigs. I kill ceptors all day long in any ship I fly, stock frigs included. Assult frigs are tough buggers. I do all my lev 3 missions in one, and do 0.0 NPCing in a re-fit version as well. Double BS spawns are no sweat (they take a while to kill though). And in pvp they can be very fun. I have 3 setups that I run for my retribution: Super Tank, 75%+ resists across the board with 2000hp of armor and so-so damage (for pvp/mission running). Super Damage, 320dps...pvp support only. So So damage and tank, this is what I take deep into enemy territory and NPC those faction spawns with. So far the only thing I can say about this type of setup: STAY AWAY FROM WEBBING FRIGGIES. Your small sig radius, speed and high resists allow you to tank multi bs spawns as long as you keep moving.
Assult frigs all the way.

If you're still doing lvl2 missions, I'm guessing you don't have much ISK, in which case using T2 ANYTHING in PvP is a bad idea. So go with assaults, they're good for NPCing.

enyo's better for missions, can tank better and you don't have to worry about npcs killing your drones or the drone bugs.
it costs twice as much, but if you're not going to be pvping that doesn't really matter.

Once you have trained frigate 5 you could train quickly for all the ship types you want to try.
For missions an assault frigate would probably be your best choice, simply because deadspace missions cancel out interceptors biggest bonus, speed.

AF is definitely the way to go for missions, even if I dont like then myself (to clumsy and slow). But if you have the choise, choose Harpy over Enyo. Harpy is better if you can afford a gisti shield booster.
Interceptors are fun, but you quickly hit the wall with them if you try level 3 missions (atleast I did in my crow).
Btw, some people say its easy to die in ceptors. I have never got blown up once in my crow, but 3 times in my enyo

I'm training for an assault ship aswell. I could go for caldari or gallente ships at this point but I think I'll be sticking with caldari. So I'd like to know if anyone thinks the Hawk has any merits over the Harpy, besides it's price that is. As far as I can see it just makes better use of missles with 2 launchers and RoF bonuses.

For lvl1/2 missions, ceptor rocks.
Don't MWD it, AB it. I use a Crusader, which is practically an Assault Frigate with a dmg mod on. Just don't get webbed :p

I have recently just purchaced my first Assault Frigate and used it for one lvl 3 mission. The mission had about 6 Mercenary missile frigates and one 80K+ cruiser per spawn. I only had my AF skill at lvl one and small hybrid at lvl 4.
The mission was a little bit hard, I had to warp out twice. But no panic warp-out. I easily took down the frigates and the cruisers but was heavily bombarded by missiles.
I love my new assault frigate. Just have to be patient to get the skills up a little more first.

Interceptor damage output is low unless you're lucky enough to be Amarr - the Crusader can take an identical weapons loadout to the Retribution, which is no slouch in the dps department. Using one on L2 missions atm, by and large pretty easy with a small rep II on hand, and diving into a pack of unsuspecting frigates at 1200+m/s and killing two in the first pass is good fun :)

Just a quick question.....are stealth bpmbers any good for missions and NPCing? For how hard missions and how low security spawns can you handle? And does mission doing take longer than if i use a fregat/interceptor/assault fregat/cruiser etc...?
