so say you blow up a freighter carrying 10 Megathrons...they cant exactly drop in a loot can.
what happens when a freighter drops a BS when it goes pop?

The Battleships are assembled and dropped into space. That is, if they weren't destroyed. Unless its changed recently. A corpmate of mine had his indy popped and a Harpy and Raptor assembled themselves and were just sitting there in space, he hopped into the raptor and flew away lol.

I'm not sure, but i once had a bestower with a shuttle in it.. when the bestower got ganked, the shuttle just appeared in space and i could board it and fly away.
Would be an awesome sight with 10 Megathrons

A freighter does not drop anything when it explodes, no matter how much cargo you got. :/

Well, that's possible if your killer have a very bad locking time, cuz it takes 30 secs from when you die till you can enter a new ship.

Hello Sentry Guns?
That is a tiny bit hard since I can't aggro with a ship that has no slots ;)
But nope, not sentrys - self destruct did the works.

You do know that when you self-destruct, everything in the cargohold is destroyed with it? As opposed to when it's popped by another ship.

I don't agree, since I self-destructed my indy just before the freighter and its cargo was not destroyed but placed in space for anyone to grab.
