Hi gurus !
I have an Apoc. ItÆs fitted with 3 heavy (3750 MW) lasers, 2 heavy nosferatus and 2 cruise mis. launcher. I can kill a lot at 18 -> 80 km but when NPCÆs approach to 0~16 km, the lasers canÆt track them. (I depend heavily on my drones at this range).
IÆve tried with some medium ôfast trackingö ~0.1 rad/sec but canÆt seem to find ôthe weaponö for combat at this range (0~16 km). Trajectory analysis is at lvl 3 and Motion prediction is at lvl 4.
I need your advice.
Thanks in advance.

Edited by: Cadiz on 07/10/2005 07:53:25 Edited by: Cadiz on 07/10/2005 07:51:39 One, that's a very...interesting...Apoc setup. Unconventional, if you would.
Two, I would suggest putting that 150m3 dronebay on your Apoc to work. By the sounds of it you're mostly ratting, and pretty much the only rats that will try to get on top of you (in my experience, anyways) are frigates that will get chewed up nicely by a cloud of medium drones.
Ah, it seems you realize the usefulness of the drones at that range. Reading carefully before replying 4tw and whatnot, I suppose. Other than that, all I can suggest is that you swap out your cruise launchers for assault launchers, although that seems like a bit of a damn shame on a battleship.

On my main i run an apoc with 7 tachyon II's and a gank setup for npc. I wawrp in at 100 and start blasting away on cruisers/battleships, I let the frigs come close and put drones on them, depending on how far they are when im done with the big ships of course. I cary a web for the frigs btw :)
This is what i fly against Serpentis spawns btw. The setup should enable you to easilly take on the 1x 5.5 and 2x 750k spawns without taking a hit...
I know some cary a large smartbomb for frigates and save their drones for a rainy day, guess it's a matter of preference :)

depends....some frig will orbit at 9km some others under 5kms.... with my raven i was usual to fit 2 named large smarts, and in 10 secs all the frigades that dare to come closer than 5 kms were swapped away. Atm i use 2 nos for some cap problems and 9 medium drones (hammerheads r the best in almost any situation) and i have no prob with small fregades orbitin near me :)

If your drones arent doing the job, I find adding an assault missile launcher to help them really does the job (firing thermal, or EMP then Explosive if you can be bothered). And it doesn't dent a BS's grid too much either, plus does decent damage to anything else that likes to get close.

Sounds like you are taking on some close range rats. Good tip when fitting your ship is to be able to fight NPC's at their preferred range. This means you dont have to chase after them or run from them.
If you are fighting NPC's 0-18KM then you should be using pulse lasers not beams. use the same weapon types don't mix weapon ranges and sizes it doesn't work.
Use a webbie to catch close range frigates and Cruisers Pulses should be able to track anything outside webbie range.
Remember 90% webbie = 1000% effective tracking boost.
and tank if you tank that apoc properly you should be laughing at anything you face.
Last but not least DRONES lots and lots of medium drones you dont need heavies you need medium drones 15 of them. anything that is too tough for the mediums you pulses will chew through.

Drones and also try a smartbomb (faction ones if you are minted )

Try this: 1x Heavy Nos 1x Small 'Medium' Beam Laser II
The laser has a Optimal+Falloff of around 18km, and is good right down to ~3km. Use the Nos on anything that comes too close so it cannot tank/jam/scramble, then use your laser to blast the crap out of it. Anything that gives you too much hassle, launch your drones at.
Alternative is to mount a Dual Pulse Layer II, and fit a webber to bring the ships down to a more manageable speed.

Thanks for all the answers/suggestions ! That was helpfull.
I'm using the Apoc to get to lvl 4 agents...
I'm a little confused about drones : Scout drones + drone interfacing will only allow you to get 10 active drones. Is there a way to have more active drones in combat ????
Thanks

Drones @ level 5 = 5 drones controlled Scout Drone Operation iirc increases drone range Drone Interfacing @ level 5 = 5 more drone controlled. Unless you're flying a vexor, ishtar, or domi, 10 is the most you can field at any time. With Gallente Cruiser/Battleship trained @ 5, you should get 15 drones from the vexor, ishtar, or domi. (based on the relevant skills of course).
With my 'poc I use a lot of medium drones.
Hope this helps. ---
What I say has nothing to do with my corp.
