first of all: you haven't seen anything of the gameplay yet and you're an alt
and then: why do you think there is a 14 day trial available?

So like that is too bad that you're going to leave, sorry to see you go.
Did you not like the point and click way of flying? That's what shocked me in the beginning but then I saw that it was actually better and quite tactical.

Edited by: Toneii Teulaan on 07/10/2005 10:09:04 I found that really annoying. Say what you like about SW Galaxies but at least you can control your ship fully! ... With polished graphics and a massive play area, why you wouldn't be allowed to take direct control is beyond me. Also, the fact you're always stuck on your spaceship is something I thought I'd accept if the rest of the gameplay was good... I just find so many annoying things in this game's design that I could go on for pages. And the interface is horrible.
It takes a lot for me to throw a game aside after just one day.
And, gameplay in WoW offers much more than slashing level 1 rabbits. And a heck of a lot more than games like this. Ok, two completely different games in terms of setting and all that but I have played hundreds of games across many different systems in the last 18 years and this game ranks very lowly on that list.

ROFL, is this for real. I'm sorry, but this has got to be a joke. If you'd really subsribed to the gaem, you'd have put more into it than this.

the problem is that this game is so completly different from all other MMORPGs i know... maybe that is why i am still playing it
true you have to like being "stuck" to your spaceship but at least you can fly every ship there is if you want to. the taking full control of your ship part might seem like a good idea now that you fly a frig and only engage NPCs, once you are in a battleship you will think "does this thing move at all?" and once you fight other players you will realize that the only way to get all the things done is to not have to fly the ship yourself as well. targetting, checking ranges, getting your guns ready, communication etc just won't allow for having the stick in your hand aswell. in this game you will find that you have to rely more on your fellow players than on your skills alone.
the true and vast universe of this game will only open itself to you once you got the basics (and that can take some weeks really) and go out there to work together with other players.
what i like so much about this game is that it doesn't force you to team up with others as you can do most things on your own but teaming up just increases the options..
mining for example, alone you can accomplish a lot but imagine working in a team with dedicated haulers, miners and guards....
all i can say is give this game another chance, run the tutorial and tehn make up your mind what to do and where to go... work for agents or kill those asteroids and build modules for market, hunt donw those dreaded pirates (NPC for now ) that plague the asteroid belts in lower sec systems (0.8 and lower)...
there are so many choices and ways to go i am sure EVE has one for you as well.
and if you still don't like it just cancel your subscription and you lost what? 14Ç... i don't know where you are from but in some countries 3 beer cost more

Heh, you couldn't possibly manually control your ships and still hope to perform in combat. With all the modules that need attention at the correct times and the juggling of capacitor power during combat would make controling the ship at the same time a bother. Think of it Eve combat like modern naval combat, rather than twitch shooting in space ala Freelancer. It's all about combining the correct weapon and defence system and using them at right time, with the right tactics. If you want dog fights in space then this isn't the game for you, the complexities of Eve space combat go much deeper than merely trying to get behind your enemy, put a little aiming reticule on them and pull a trigger. SWG? I've played that, *blush* the space combat is frankly terrible. It's got all the depth of a puddle of badger urine, and can't hold a candle to Eve. WoW offers more than Eve? Now even the biggest WoW fanboy can't really say that with a straight face. Eve is the deepest MMO ever made. Indisputable fact. Too deep for you perhaps? What ever criticisms you throw at Eve you'd have to be one card short of a pack to say Eve isn't deep. Games don't come any deeper than Eve, and that is what puts many people off.
You're not the first to find it too hard, and you won't be last.

Edited by: John Panek on 07/10/2005 11:35:57 Well, I "jumped" to the game without 14 days trial too. But I had read the whole player guide first, all the f.a.q. and the most important sticky forum threads.
And guess what. When I appeared in the game, it was exactly as I expected. Even more than I expected. I have just started my third month of gameplay and the game is excellent.
If you simply paid because someone told you so and then you discovered that you did not like the concept of the game, you are, well, stupid in my opinion.

1st of all we here at EVE are the coolest bunch of people you will ever see around, thatÆs just one reason to love this game and give it a chance?
I donÆt think there is much to do as far as the ships in SWG Jump to Light Speed, and can you imagine how much you have to grind just to get a ship in the 1st place? Even on the box it says you can RIDE in your friends ship knowing that you won't be able to get into your own ship for quite a while in SWG Jump to Light Speed.
And don't anyone give me any bull about you can get in one after 2 days of grinding 48 hours straight, yeah whatever!
And what's the deal with having to get out of your ship. Can't you RP that when you land in a station? Oh I know, you just got to dance! 3D Style baby Like in SWG!
EVE is very relaxing and enjoyable but I'm sure it is not for everyone, heck I think CoH is an awesome game but I can't play it because of how repetitive it is.
But one thing though, you must be older in life by now and you know sometimes people jump to conclusions right away as soon as they see something different, well you know that's not right.
Besides you seem like an adult, do you really want to beat up on Human wanna be cows or goofy kids stuff Like This in WoW? Or talk to the Jedi's that outnumber the civilians in SWG?

Why would you want to have hands on control of the ships in eve ?
These arnt supposed to be little one man fighters like in star wars, even the smallest ships are about 100m long. An Eve battleship would be the equivalent of a star destroyer and its not like they can roll and weave and spin in dogfights so what would be the point in having joystick control ?
You never see some guy with a joystick on the bridge of the Enterprise or Vaders flagship, i think the Eve control system is spot on.

I have to agree with you that this game is crappy in a way but after looking around at others for some time, Eve is still the best amongst all evils.
Just takes some time to appreciate it. My alternative way of imagining Eve is when computers were dumb terminals and I just interact with the system in a text-based fashion. Just in Eve, all the extra graphics IMHO are just unnecessary wallpaper. I just the lowest setting for graphics in Eve because my video card can not handle too much fine details.

Toneii,
I wish you luck in trying to get your cash back, otherwise, if you feel you must leave you are simply going to have to cancel your account.
I'm not going to harp on about free trials, etc but I'm sure every single person who has bought a computer game can think of games they have purchased for a lot more than the monthly subscription here and then ditched it after 1 day thinking this is crap.
No game can be for everybody and therefore I wish you luck in future.

I don't know why either, but I thought there was a fourteen day trial. Er... I'll see if I can find out who/what gave me that idea, but I suspect old info about the boxed version may be to blame. Doesn't change the fact that I thought it.
I am, for the record, enjoying the game though (probably because I knew exactly what I was getting).

I think you should ask your friend for the refund.
Comparisons to SWG are irrelevant. In SWG, a space zone is a 16km cube. I've seen some space stations in EVE that take up that much room.
This is either a weak attempt at trolling, or you're simply a fool - because only a fool would list his email address in such a thread.
Have fun in SWG. Someone's got to...
