Most of the people i have talked to in eve appear to have played (and loved) homeworld at some time in their lives.
does this trend continue in the forums?
and also, is there anyone playing eve who tried, but DIDN'T like homeworld? --

I enjoyed HW2. Especially the music, which I eagerly ripped out and listen to even nowadays when going into combat. Vaygr Battle.aif ftw.

I played homeword 2 and couldn't get into it tbh.
The game that got me into Eve was actually Freelancer, which I had another go on the other day and couldn't get back into either, after 3 years or so, despite some rather tasty mods having been released for it. --------------------------------------------------

Homeworld Homeworld Catacylsm Homeworld 2
Liked Cataclysm the most I think, mainly because of the 'start with a mining vessel and build it to a warship' concept. And ofcourse the really, really cool looking dreads =)

Oh Freelancer was cool too, though it was not really a game for longterm. Most missions felt generic, most were basically identical to the other and the npc narration, which was basically the same for all, did the final blow to missions. The aspect that got me playing for most of the time was ofcourse the great and involving story but also the particular well designed universe in which jumping from one starsystem to it's neighbour wouldn't result in a complete change of environment, like in EVE. All regions had a particular, to that region belonging graphic and sound setting. I.e. if you jumped to Rheinland space you would recognize it immidiatelly by the colourscheme of the systems and the local music. That really gave a touch to the feeling of coming home from a long journey

Played the origional hw and cataclysm, tried the demo to hw2 but didn't get around to buying it. Enjoyed it, liked the ion beam frigs , useless vs anything that could actually move around but still how can you not like a big gun strapped to an engine?
Why do they get jump drives on frigates and we don't... hmm?

Remember one of the last missions where you had to punch through a large fleet of Ion frigs in a cicular formation? All you had to do was steal them one by one and just add them to your fleet, that's how I got past the last missions :)

Did you ever imagine that some people working on a scifi game could take Barber's Adagio for Strings and make it, heaven help us all, MORE wrenching?
Quite an impressive accomplishment.

The opening part in HW1 on itself makes me almost reinstall the game... Now that's storytelling qualities! Simply brilliant.

I played all three, Homeworld, Cataclysm and HW2. The original is still the most atmospheric.
Regretfully no other game had been able to capture the sheer atmosphere, immersion and involvement of Homeworld. Not Freelancer whch I also played which is also one of the greatest space games ever. And not even EVE. Homeworld has this sheer sense of desolation and tribal mysticism, kind of like Dune in space. The stuff is full of both Biblical, Central Asian and Islamic influences. The original story reminds me of the Biblical Exodus and many of the names used in the story are also Biblical. Then again the symbol of the Hiigarans is that of angelic wings.
The best moment and music in the entire series is the Kadeshi battle hymn (the Keepers of the Garden) as their entire battlefleet emerged from the great Nebula to attack your mothership. You are trapped by the hyperspace inhibitors and you scramble your interceptors as the Kadeshi Swarmers descend on you. Furtheraway, you see the Kadeshi needleships (the Amarr Titan is a ripoff of its design) shooting massive lasers at your ship.
Got to love the Turanic Raider battle hymms too. Both the Kadeshi and Turanic battle music seemed both Arabic and Native American rolled into one. _______________________________________________ "Is it me or the bad guys just getting totally pathetic?"---Clover, Totally Spies, "Hope is wasted on the Hopeless."---Mandy, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. Completed all 3
Made #4 in the last Homeworld:Cataclysm Ladder and #5 on the first and last Homeworld 2 ladder.
Easily the only other games that have had as much time as EVE has. ___

I still remember my first experience playing Homeworld 1....
I was enjoying the music, the atmosphere, and GAME, so much, I had read up on the whole backstory and was caught up in the whole....EPICness of it all....
Then, after being ambushed on the first jumpdrive test, coming home to find...a planet aflame....and that damned music....I had to make those fu***** PAY...
Grat game, great moment. Remember Kharak!!!

cataclysm was really good hw2 was really really good
hw1 was one of the best games i ever played NO other games have ever put about 100 enemy ships in front of me just spread out enough that given enough lack of social life and a few hours, you could capture EVERY SINGLE ONE
i am one of the people who went through that game and captured every ship you could that was frigate size or bigger. when i couldn't steal the junkyard dog i almost cried. it would have been my ultimate weapon --

and yup, the MOMENT in HW1 (everyone who has played knows which one i am on about - the one with barber's adagio for strings) is the best game moment EVER. i have never felt that way in another game ever, and would be surprised it i ever did --

Great game...
Bought this one on day of release, was glad i did, to be absolutely honest, can't think of a game with more of an atmosphere about it.
The whole story with the cutscenes and music just drags you right in, can't think from the top of my head another game thats ever had that effect on me.
Played the semi sequel once or twice, never realy got into it, hw2.. loved to say i have, just never got around to it:/

It is because of HW2 that I play Eve. A member of my 'fleet' pointed me at Eve and that was the end of HW2 for me. Cheers FOL :)

Siad it a couple of times over the years on these boards but the scene of Kharak burning (Adagio) and when Fleet Command croaks at the end are some of the few heart-wrenching moments i've had in video game history.
It's going to be bloody hard to top.
Good story and atmosphere beats everything.
