First of all, let me say that I don't own ONE BP copy nor an original. Makes me kind of neutral, I believe. (Not counting the miner 1 bp I bought and never used....:P)
There's two possible solutions I can see, but both involves quite a bit work for the devs/GMs...
First solution - which probably is impossible: Do a journal search on everyone that currently owns a BP copy, find out what they paid for the BP and give a % of the money back, while destroying the BP.
Second solution, the best/easiest: Figure out how much each type of BP was worth 3 weeks ago. Destroy every current BP copy out there, while reimbursing the owners with a % of the value - depending on how long they owned it. (A corp that owned a cruiser bp copy for 3 month has/should already made some money on the copy - so a full refund wouldn't be fair). It might be possible that the % depending on time owned is impossible to do though. If so - just reimburse say 75 % of the "base" value or something like that...
If you like this idea - posting the price you payed for your BP copy here might help the GMs/CCP to find the right price for the reimburse... Also - suggestions on how much x% researched on the copy should affect the reimburse price would help. Yggdrassil |

Well It seems that most people are forgetting the reality of life here. In real life if u buy a copy of a blue print, it does not magically disappear or go away. U paid for the copy so that u may reproduce an endless amount of the Item. I wholeheartedly disagree with this NERF. It is very unrealistic and will cause NUMEROUS people to quit a game that probably by my best guess only has 10-12K players. Copies are to Eve the same they are to Reality. If u want one u buy one and u have no limitations. the reasoning for this is cause u paid for that right. If they want to Stop the trend, Limit Origionals to allow only 3 copies. This will stop the flood of the market and not penalize those who only want to make ships for their corp. With the customer service from the GM's Turning from Good to Crap, this is just adding another nail in the Coffin. People don't want to waste their hard earned time to have something renigged on them. I think Limiting the Origionals is the better solution.

I like the idea of limiting originals as well.
Too bad the damage has already been done though.

dont limit the originals.. as long as you have licenses the market wont be flooded..
just calculate the current copy time of a bp and convert copies to the amount of licenses and it would give..
all low and cheap bps you either make to originals or destroy
or make all bps originals.. hahaha.. |

Edited by: Danton Marcellus on 03/08/2003 08:42:05 Fuji, in real life there's also something called patent, trademarks and such prohibiting just about anyone from building and selling the same gear as the business next door so I can't really see your analogy fly.

In my opinion, manufacturing stuff should be a way for ppl that want to get into producing stuff to make some money.
When most ppl are able to produce their own stuff - the whole industry disappears.
Rigth now, prices on cruisers/frigates are way too low - nobody is making any profit worth mentioning from producing these.
My previous cruiser (Maller) I could buy for around 7-8 mill. In it I had stuff worth 4-5 times that - which doesn't make sense to me. (heavy modulated beams, rare heatsinks, etc etc.)
This needs to be corrected - and reducing the number of copies around - and limiting the blueprint copies seems to be about the only way to get the manufacturing of stuff on the right track again.
Letting those blueprint copies thats already out there having unlimited runs would NOT reduce the number of manufacturers enough, I'm afraid.
Reimbursing those that already have bought these copies would leave them with "no harm" done. They'll get their money back - and can't complain... They'll be in the same position as they were BEFORE they bought the blueprint copy!
The effect would be that the number of producers probably would be reduced by maybe 70-80 %. This will have a huge impact on the economy of EVE. Producers will actually afford to BUY minerals at more than NPC price - and still make a profit. Scientists would be able to research their blueprint and sell limited copies of these SEVERAL times - and the price for these well researced copies would probably be pretty high - so manufacturers would HAVE to sell their stuff for higher price - both due to the increased costs both for minerals and for blueprints.
In other word - the sum of this is that it would make sense to specialize in your own field.
Pirate hunters would hunt pirates - and buy new ships/modules if their ship get blown up or they want a better ship - instead of just making his own.
Miners would mine their minerals selling to the producers - as they wouldn't be able to make money producing stuff. But they'll get more money for their minerals when selling.
Scientists would be able to research their bluprints high - selling limited number of copies of them MANY times.
Producers would specialize in the skills needed to produce stuff. They would buy minerals of the miners, BP copies from the scientist and sell their merchandises to all the other players.
In my opinion both renting factories and research slots should have a high price though - so that cost really is a part of the equation when you find out how much you have to charge to make money on your merchandise/blueprints.
Large corps would of course still be able to do everything "in-house" - but thats the way it should be. Even small size corps would be able to - though not as easily.
I know these are drastical changes to EVE, and believe me, I generally don't like such changes. But face it - all of us that likes to hunt NPC pirates has been "hit" by such changes several times, sometimes when needed, sometimes when perhaps not THAT needed... Think the producers are gonna have to face the fact that the producing line here NEEDS to be changed. And accept it.
The big question is how it can be done without hurting those that already bought those copies as little as possible. And my solution menitioned above here might be the most painless way to do it. Some ppl loose their future profit - but they WON'T BE WORSE OFF than they were BEFORE they bought the BP copy!

Word on what is written above
also.. it SUX that the good stuff only is rare fpirate loot.. us researchers really isnt as useful as piratehunters then.. so typically this kind of game.... let the bruthish asholes be able to get all the good stuff and we manufacturers are stuck with "basic" |
