Is there a maximum resolution setting that EVE works best with without performanc issues or is limited to the maximum of the monitor/video card?
What I am getting at is,
I have a 27" monitor and max resouiont is 1920X1080
Graphics card is 2560X1600
Will I really gain a lot more screen real estate by upping the monitor?? |

far bigger than 2560*1600 that's for sure
EVE can stretch onto like 5 screens easily without any special multi-monitor support |

Over 9000!
(too easy)
I find that without a good mob to provide one for them, most people would have no mentality at all. |

The biggest I've seen so far is 3840x2160 in Lord Maldoror's thread Your Sunday dose of Burn Jita screenshots in 3840x2160 (updated). Very pretty pictures :) |

If you are just replacing with a larger 1920 x 1080 monitor, say 30" instead of 27", you will only get larger pixels (block-ier). Example: I've seen DLP projectors where the pixels appeared about 3mm^2 on the screen, which is fine if you are seated a good distance away. Most displays today are 1920 x 1080, so unless you fork over hundreds of thousands for 4k, multiple monitors is the way to go.
You can run EVE in window mode and expand the window to span multiple monitors. The limitation is largely dependent on the video card(s).
I have two 1920 x 1200 (it is 16:10, as I hate using 16:9 aspect for general computing). I can expand the EVE window to cover this for 3840 x 1200 (more pixels, not bigger pixels). Using 3 monitors is possible too for 5760 x 1200, especially with a single triple-head card. I think CCP may have first demonstrated "ultra-widescreen" at fanfest with 4 monitors, but I can't find the video. |

yes but at what price?
if your card has it as an option, and you are connected with DVI, then your monitor supports it (the monitor DVIID reports acceptable resolutions to the card)
that said, when you are using that higher resolution on a monitor that has a lower NATIVE resolution you are simply scaling the image. as a result you can encounter worse graphics performance by doing so or at the very least create ugly output due to the scaling.
in a perfect world GFX card at monitor native resolution and applications and full screen apps at the same resolution for clean fast processing

Scaling actually looks better than native resolution if you are using a good monitor. It's called downscaling and it DESTROYS all jaggies plus makes specular stuff and texture details on curved surfaces look much better. The ideal factor for downscaling is 4X, so for a 1080P display you want to downscale from 2160P. |

it better be a real good one, but yes, in theory scaling down makes for a sharper image. I stick with native, but then again I'm running a dual screen so I'm getting 2880x900 on two 1440x900 native monitors off dual ports on my gfx card, but I find I have better performance running everything native.

Naturally, since higher res = more GPU core/RAM usage. I find that 2160P cuts my performance in half from 1080. My 6870s have a hard time doing it in games that aren't Dark Souls. Haven't had the chance to try monitor-based downscaling yet though, just software stuff with Skyrim and Dark Souls, so maybe my displays don't have the scaling oomph for it. |

I usually run three clients on 3 24" screens when actively playing - occasionally I'll do 6000something*1080 on a single client (frame correction).
Would be nice to know if there's a hardcoded limit though. You know... morons. |

Will I really gain a lot more screen real estate by upping the monitor?? Going from 1920x1080 to 2560x1440 yields 78% more pixels.
Going up to 2560x1600 gives you 97.5% more pixels.
In either case, the change is non-trivial. |
