Im a PC fool, i have pretty much no idea bout these things.
I can play the game on max settings with 64 ppl in it and it runs perfect... but it pretty much always freezes at some point...i basically cant do nothing.. i have to reset my PC...
The PC is pretty new, and the company are obliged to take it back and sort the prob, but its a total pain to repackage and send back...
I can run half life 2 on max settings, and never had one freeze.. maybe that was just thru luck, as i have had a few freezes on EVE, but its VERY rare.
Has anyone had similar problems?...
system=
FX55 athlon cpu 2 GB ram dual gforce 7800 gtx cards
Im thinking the cards are the prob, but what do i know.. all drivers are up to date.
its an azus board with creative soundcard, i can give specs on both when i get home if u think it may help... also give make of memory and all that stuff.
just wondering if oter folks have had anything like the same prob.

Yes, no matter what i run it on, it will freeze sometimes.
you have to face the facts that the game was programmed by 12 yearolds.
I mainly blame it on the ~e5.0001 process that starts with the game, my only proof being that when i ended that process on bf 1942, the freezing/****tering stopped, but now in bf2.. if you end that process your game crashes instantly....
also I dont quite know what that process is, I heard it was a copyright checker or something to that effect, but correct me if im wrong.
and its not your pc, that pc could run any game in existance flawlessely, if it was coded well.

It may be that the CPU is overheating slightly. Check airflows and/or filters ect...:)

Bf2 is evil.
I was in the middle of a tough round, and my vid card released the magic purple smoke....apparently it needs that stuff to function.

solo when it freezes do you get a screeming noise from the computer (high pitched noise). If so I've got the same problem.

I get no stuttering or freezes on my PC
AthlonXP 3200 ATI Radeon X800 XL 256MB DDR 1.5GB of DDR RAM
Admittedly, I only run it at medium/high settings at 1152x864 resolution but even when the screen is packed full of solders, vehicles, and helicopters, it's smooth.

Well, overheating or just the game.. its not like your computer would be dying horribly from playing it.. more like.. "LOL! THSI GMAE IZ 2 CRAPPY GRFX TO MKAE ME CRAE LOLZ!"
If your stuff isn't getting that hot, just go to some random BF2 site and scream at them till they succum to your will and tell you how to fix it... or something..
/me really really really wants your PC :/

ya probably better off at a site like www.planetbattlefield.com :) Thier forums can be a little bit better than ones for eve-online

Edited by: Calleb on 10/10/2005 17:57:40 I too have come across this problem. There are loads of possable reasons why this happens, but it can just be down to a poor compatability between the nvidea cards and other hardware in the PC.
For me i had an 6800 GT and tried for 2 weeks to get it working. I had random locks on all software that used some type of 3d rendering. Basically all games and a few other applications. In the end i admitted defeat and swapped out for an ati X800XL and it worked first time - no problem.
I would not say that this problem will affect everyones PC, but if you are unlucky there will be problems. All sorts of things were suggested as fixes from more cooling and bigger power supply (more than 20A on the 12V rail) to bios and chipset driver upgrades. Many other things in between too. I tried and got nowhere.
I do however have to admit, this is a problem that i have not come across with the 7800 card, but i'll post my links here in case they are of any use to you. The problems here are on the 6600 and 6800 cards but there may be common ground.
Linkage
and
Linkage
I guess as the PC is new, returning would be the option over any sort of modification. You might just be suffering from a faulty power supply or suchlike.
Hope you sort your problem out soon

I had a similar problem, where during games my monitor would just suddenly go into what seemed like standby mode, with the amber light on. Turned out my card was overheating and shutting down. Installing an Artic Cooler fixed it. -----------------

ok more bad news.
1.03 patch totaly messed up the game...
all day it was ****tering and then textures stopped loading... then it crashed my pc and all the settings got eraised...
then I start it again, i join servers, i cant contorl the mouse or keyboard at all, so.. I reinstall, same problem.. nothing works...
then it just stops working, as soon as i try to join a server it dies....
this is so beyond rediclous, Im thinking of just stopping playing it.. but it can kill time with a good server and extmreme luck of only minor bugs... Its not like I CAN actuily play it anyway... ><, now im bored out of my mind too.

I have the impression that your problem is a sound card issue. What do you run the sound settings at? Hardware, Highest I bet. What is your sound card? Audigy 2zs ?
To check this, I highly reccommend the first thing you do its put it back on software rendered sound just too check the stability. Trouble shooting, break down the possible solutions till you only have a few certain ones left.
I am pretty sure this is a sound issue though. I have seen the **** poor compatibilty between creatives drivers and BF2 on some rather nice gamming rigs bring it too their knees. For more info check this site for the problem. EA forum for sound problem

Edited by: Raith on 11/10/2005 10:38:24 Fella, are you saying that you're running the 7800GT's in SLi?
If so...A: Rich bastard B: It might just be a bug with the game and functioning in SLi.
Try removing one of the cards and seeing if the same problem arrises, if not then there is you problem.
You could try running either some older WHQL certified drivers or some newer Beta drivers, see whats stable and whats not.
(and what the others suggested, check temps of GPU's etc, easy to do, download a copy of Motherboard monitor, they should provide you with a file for your mobo so you don't have to manually figure settings out, failing that try a trial version of Everest or something similar - just to get a feel of what temps are doing. You can compare them to what temps the Nvidia drivers say you are getting under the driver properties)
GL :)
Edit: I run a AMD 4000+ SD (FX54) and 2 x 6800 GT's in SLi (well I did...) but they are so unstable and I have tried everything from new Mobo BIOS's to Beta / Alpha drivers to fix it and I still can't get Eve stable with it, but havn't tried BF2 (although I do only have 1GB ram)
It is stable however with just 1 card running which i'm doing at the moment, but it kills me to see my sassy 6800 GT sitting there on the desk unused :(
Edit 2: WTS 6800 GT (used once in SLi but due to unstability I have to sell it. No box, and has Artic cooler fitted lol)

Exactly! lol
Coolmaster made the old cooler for my old Card. And was ABSOULTE crap. It was designed so that you couldn't clean out any dust, it all just got stuck under a metal plate, and temperatures shot up to 70c plus.
Anyone with the same coolmaster cooler as stock, should seriously think about changing it, it could ruin your card. Why they put this trash out on new cards I don't know. -----------------
