Edited by: Katchin on 09/10/2005 17:30:03 just built a new PC, and it locks up in eve after around 15mins, also the framerate isnt what I expected it to be. Specs are : -
Asus A8N-SLI Premium mainboard Athlon X2 dual core 4400 4gb Corsair DDR400 2x 256mb XFS Extreme gamers overclocked 4800GTX's 2x 74gb 10000rpm Western Digital Raptor HDD's running on SATA 650w Powersupply Win XP Pro SP2 Onboard Sound (ugh)
I also play Planetside, and that has a lot of issues with the dual core chips. The temporary solution there is enter game, minimise, load up Task Manager, find planetside in applications list and disable one CPU each time you play.
Could this be a solution here?

Wow, i have exactly the same system as you, but only one GFXs card . This has been my problem: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=233740. Tried what you said and it works fine! So i guess this is the solution.

this solution isnt perfect by far, i'm still crashing occasionally, maybe eve doesnt like dual graphics either. Any word on this issue CCP? if this is the case and your preparing some sort of fix it would be great to know about it.

Yup, you're right. After about an hour or so of play tonight, it restarted my computer. Had to delete the "pc.dat" in my cache->settings folder for it to stop restarting when i tried to get onto my character.

I have a dual core and zero issues with the game.
Many times, I even run a second game at the same time, but not always.

SLI does not work in eve even if you set a profile for in it the nvidia drivers.

Edited by: Jazorimhiux on 10/10/2005 23:44:49 I am using WinLauncherXP 2.05 (beta) http://www.gameroffice.com/ So I don't have to go task manager anymore. Just doubleclick EVE-Online and fly safe!

The new 81.84 beta drivers seem to be a lot better. I abandoned trying to get SLI working stably on the released ones, but I can get SFR mode working fine on the betas.
No problems for me with with a dual core, SLI system.

OK, well i'm still locking up in eve, and in only eve. After being ingame for a short period the system totally locks up and I get a high pitched squeak in my headphones. I found a similar post on the net that pointed to RAM issues, but wasnt identical. Does anyone else here have this mainboard and 4gb DDR running ok in eve? Or anyone have any suggestions?

A) Download the newest driver from AMD for dual core processors and WinXP (32bit). If you're lazy here's the link: http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/utilities/amdcpu.exe
B) Read this: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=896256 and then search for this hotfix file: WindowsXP-KB896256-v3-x86-ENU.exe (I will not link you to it since it's only sent via email by MS support; Google 4tw)
Enjoy all games on your X2 (including EVE) w/o stutter or having to set processor affinity each time.
As for your crashing problem, I have no idea. I have a very similar setup and run w/o problems, altough with EVE it usually has something to do with audio in my experience. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The hotfix worked for me. I was having performance cycling problems. Eve would hesitate every couple of seconds.
This problem seems isolated to AMD dual core processors.
