This isn't exactly the first thread about this... but I'm pretty fed up with drones users being neglected (being a dominix mission runner). Fixing them is now even more important with highly expensive t2 drones. You want those in your drone bay _immediately_ when you tell them to.
Drones have been bugged since.. forever: 1) They (still) love hugging eachother. 2) When I tell my heavies to attack a target I'm happy if at least one or two of them is actually heading towards the target at their top speed. I'm supposed to sit there and tank while the rest of my drones are taking it easy at about 150-300m/s. 3) The new commands are very nice. Pity they don't work. When I tell them to "return to drone bay" about one or two of them will actually enter the drone bay when they arrive. The rest of them will just start orbiting, or, if I'm moving at anything more than 100 m/s (big mistake), they'll be lagging behind me, just out of reach of the "scoop to drone bay" command. 4) I don't think drones should get stuck behind those hell-spawn scenery items in deadspace. It would probably be better to just disable collision detection for them. That would probably solve 1) AND the most annoying case of being bumped out of warp alignment by YOUR OWN DRONES (which is very frustrating). Oh noes, that wouldn't be realistic! Well neither is flying through planets right? So who cares.
I've lost countless drones (even the t1 drones are quite pricy to lose so often) and several ships to these damned bugs. Instead of throwing some t2 drones (which are too expensive to use for anyone but billionaires who are trying to lose isk doing missions, BECAUSE of these bugs) in our face, please make drones work as they should.

the only problem i have with my drones is that when they have destroyd the target they start to attack the biggest thing even if it is outside my drone range and not the ships shooting me after that they car retun and orbit

I don't use drones that often, but so far I've not had any big problems with them. When I use the "Return to drone bay command", only 1 or 2 don't return (thats with 14 drones out playing). Might be because i use light/med drones?

Gawd how hard could this one be to fix?! just a simple 'Has players drones returned to bay? -NO? Scoop drones to bay -Yes Terminate Script.
Something simple like ^ that would do the trick... might create some lag, perhaps (simple if/then check)
Come on Devs.... didnt anyone actually TEST THIS?
-- Sorry if this offends anyone... i just find it rather funny this wasnt fixed out the door.....

I believe myself that they simply are fixing more important problems (such as the random spikage/teleportation, market not working, shield/armor hardeners with inappropriate values, clone bugs, and such) before hitting up the drones issue. It'll get done.... I couldn't say they'd release it as is with a straight face

^^what about a "do while" ? *hehe* i think the problem is stess lvl with suck code, so its has a timeout thing or is event triggered (dont know if python has that sorta thing).
But im with the drone fix, having a bunch of t2 drones out is a huge isk risk, as they are likely to start rampaging or wont return to bay when the sh|t hits the fan, only way to use em safe is to have all rats in there optimal, but that means that u either is loosing or allready have won, since u can tank em, and then its only time u safe. Is that what drones are for ?

Edited by: Hafthor on 15/10/2005 19:34:52 Drones have been the target of "fixes" from time to time but about 50% of the time they get bugged in the process and stay that way untill the next "fix" this has become quite annoying. Just do one good overhaul AND TEST IT!!!
Then everyone will be happy and will go mine together in peace and harmony.

Angaro, me and whats left of my T2 ogres are all behind you.
I posted on this somewhere before, but even though "Return to dronebay" seemed like the final solution, it is very much bugged. :(

Edited by: BaJaiah on 21/10/2005 11:59:16 Hmm - I'm think I just experienced a Deja Vš
Ooh - now i remember... I actually wrote 3 or 4 topics regarding this and a couple of other issues during my 2˘ year playtime
I'm just glad that somebody else is ready to take up the "WE WANT WORKING DRONES"-bat and smack it around a bit.
Last thing I heard was that drones will get some love in Kali... I just hope that it works out better than Shiva, Exedus and Cold War. All these releases promised better drone logics if I remember correctly. We all know how that went...
Anyway here's to CCP actually fixing the drones - cheers

I remeber - i wish I could find it again - a dev saying that this problems do not exist. That they wish they could repeat such situations but they do not seem to but that they will investigate. It was not long time ago.
Despite tons of forum posts about this problem that was the first time a dev was made aware of it.
Do you see the problem? This is not the place to post such things. Devs can't read all the forums and they do disregard many as whining.
The proper way is to file proper bug reports. With detailed descryption of whats going wrong. Not one that says it happens often to me pls help. One that says that on this ocasion it happend with the time , drones used , what were they doing before , what you told the to do. Phaps we could create a list of things to report and phaps at some time a dev would tell us what they thing would be important info in this particular case.
The mentioned dev did sugest same way. If we think - I do - drones are bugged then report it.
On a bit another note. The dev said that they cant reproduce the alleged buggs. Is it possible that it has something to do with lag? I would not be suprised that some of the drone functions are implemented client side. The return to dronebay command -> Client sends to server - drones fly to this point - then monitors their distance and phaps changes the point thy are flying to then scoops them one by one client side by sending many scoop commands. Lag would make this scenario buggy quite often. If they test it with less lag then phaps they cant reproduce it.

I have to offer that Oveur has acknowleged that some discussion needs to take place about drones. I can't remember which dev is heading up drone development, but Oveur said as soon as he works up the nerve to write a blog we'll get one. We have put a serious pressure about drones up and they feel it, even though they tend to do a good job of dismissing it. The impression I got was not to expect anything untill after the mk2 ship overhaul, or the combat revisited project.. I dunno they have soo many projects and so few devs..
The promise that I cling to for now is that more programmers will come onto the staff once CCP has moved into more spacious offices. Stuffing any more personllel into their currant space would be counter productive to what they are working on now.

reporting problems on the forums is not the best way to get things fixed. please use Http//bugs.eve-online.com, please include a good reproduction, description and log file. steps to filing a bugreport can be found here including steps to make a logfile.
but however. if you check the latest build available to the public, 3718 at time of post, the drones problems have been fixed.
