Im thinking of importing a PSP to the USA and I was wondering if anyone else has done this before? Are there any import taxes that need to be paid and what who did you buy from?

1) Customs and Excise charge - percentage of value based on what the item is. 2) VAT - 17.5% on top of total value (including C+E) 3) Courier handling charge - percentage of total value.
I know that if i want to escape step 1 + 2 then i have to ask them to mark the goods as a gift. Im pretty sure step 3 depends on how grumpy the courier sorting dude is
edit : Im a DivX Drunkard too

Where are you buying from? I bought mine last May FROM the USA to bring back to the UK. It was 35 quid cheaper. The law in the UK is x amount of tobacco, 1 bottle liquor, 100ml cologne/perfume exempt from duty, and goods to the value of ú18 (or so). More than that, you're supposed to pay VAT on the difference on goods, and both VAT and duty on the other items mentioned.
I don't know what the rate is TO the USA, but I think if it's goods destined to stay there, you may have to pay something. But if you just declare it as a gift it's probably okay. I would think if there was any duty to pay, it would be at the sales tax rate of the State you're entering the US from. If it's yours then it's also probably fine. Otherwise anyone listening to a portable CD player on the plane who wasn't a US citizen would have to cough up -------------

Believe it or not this is one of the items hit with the whole anti-terrorism laws. The shipping company has to have the proper approval to send these items legally....nutty huh?
But, andy major company will most likely be registered to send this type of electronics to the US, just ask them in an email first.
A friend of mine had purchased an electronic toy from Japan and it never made it through customs because the company wasn't registered to send such items freaking insane.
As far as fees to get it in the country most world wide shippers automatically add those fees to the billing the postal service included.
