recently we have been having a dispute about conquerable stations.
now as far as i was aware, you could happily jump into a ship and then fly to a conquerable station and shoot at it to your hearts content and eventually take it.
but one corp member says that, if they have a pos in the region you cannot even shoot the station, and i was under the impression that this was only outposts.
id love an offical answer, but i doubt id get one :P so any help on the matter would be much appreciated.
Thanks

nop, same deal for conquerable stations. If there's a pos in system, claiming it, you can't take the station.

Edited by: Antoinette Civari on 15/10/2005 12:15:34 You can only shoot at conquerable stations if you have sovereignty ( more POS's ) in the system.
</edit> grmpf, too late -.-

You used to be able to do that, before POS came in (obviously )
They must've changed it to match the outpost attacking mechanisms.

No, but I can tell you how it works :).
Every conquerable station or outpost (lets just called them Player Claimed Stations, or PCSs for the purpose of this) is completely invunerable to attack if the owning alliance has soverenty over the system it's located in. Soverenty is measured in points, with each POS setup in that system contributing one point.
Now, if you decided that you wanted to claim that system, you would either have to a) destroy ALL of the alliance-run player own structures or b) put up the same amount or more than the existing owners. If a) is the case then when all the POS are killed and downtime occurs, the station will be open to attack by ANYONE. If you go with the b) route, once you have an equal or greater amount of POS setup and then downtime happens, you will gain control over the system and will be allowed to attack the outpost to claim it.
Once you have claimed the outpost, you will need to put up POS's to gain soverenty (not an issue if you went for b) as you already have this), otherwise another alliance can try and claim it before you manage to online the towers and wait for a downtime.
Conquerable stations used to be "shoot to claim" regardless of how many POS were in the system, but when outposts and soverenty were introduced, all conqeruable stations were upgraded to work the same way.
Got it?
