You buy the skill on the market, go to your hangar (where it will be when you buy it), right-click the skill, and tell it to train. You'll get it at level zero, and you'll have to wait a while while it trains to level 1 (not that long, especially compared to level 5 ). You then have your snazzy new skill.

a good tip when you are buying a few at once is when you dock, tell them all to start training. Then when you get caught out in space with a skill finished you can just start the next one, as opposed to flying back to base to get one going

How do you tell multiple skills to train at once?

That's what I thought. I was hoping that I didn't miss something, but he said that you can tell them all to train and they will train back-to-back without you starting them. Atleast, that's how I understood what he was saying.

NO, you can't train them back to back that way. You must always switch the skills yourself.
However, you can get any skills you meet the requirements for out of your hangar or hold and into your head.
You just start training one, and right away start the next one and so on. You end up training the last one you pick, but now you have a lot of skills at 0 waiting when you need to switch. Plus, if you get blown up, you aren't in danger of losing the books.

Once I guy asked me how to train the skill to next level. He had bought a book and trained it to level one. He now had bought a second book and wanted to train the skill to level two! And complained that the system wouldnt let him. Clearly, thats not the way the system works. Once you bought the skill, youre all set... after that, its only time you have to pay. Just wanted to clear that up.

Ok. Now I understand. That makes sense to initiate th etraining then no need to carry books. They are all ready to start when one is done training. Somehow, I didn't grasp that concept the first time. Thank you for clearing that up.

I lost a skillbook this weekend trying to get two new skills.
Bought them both from the same station, told 1st one to train, then instantly switched to 2nd 1. The first skill just disappeared totally. I relogged but still no book. I petitioned and thankfully was reimbursed for the lost book.
Is this a bug ?? sounds like from what I read here, that the procedure *should* work...

One additional thing to note - If you're going to be doing anyting that can get you killed (traveling through low sec space or rat hunting or deadspace complexes) leave any books in your hold in a nearby starbase. Nothing worse then getting tagged and seeing "Cybernetics" skill book on the list of things destroyed. Happened to me yesterday.
Also of note - Some skills cannot be trained until certain skills are brought up to specific levels. Such as Cybernetics (needed for spiffy little implants) which requires Sience to be at level 3.

If you learn a skill, and then immediately train another one before any skill points have accumulated in the first one, it can disappear.
You can try to petition it, and maybe the GMs can restore the skill or the skillbook.
