Hello everyone. I recently posted a possible strategy of myself piloting a Dram and my corpmate piloting a worm. However it has become apparent that I could use some assistance from veteran Dramiel pilots on tactics, fitting, and general guidance on this boat for PvP. Most of my experience is in flying Rifters. I'll take any advice I can get
Thanks in advance. Fly safe

Judging from your killboard I'd recommend you don't fly Dramiels at all and keep going in Rifters until you've learnt the basics of PvP. http://chasingtheblueflash.blogspot.com/ My Pirate Blog |

From my extensive experience of observing dramiel pilots i'm quite sure that the way you fly a Dramiel is warping in at a 100km, them microwarpdriving at 5km/s away from whoever is there. Then warp off.

You maybe want to tell us where you want to do PvP. Lowsec FW complex pvp is a lot different from 0.0 pvp and thus the fittings.
In lowsec i don't see any dramiels anymore. Hookbill is much better. German blog about smallscale lowsec pvp: http://friendsofharassment.wordpress.com |

I recommend learning the basics on a cheaper hull until you accumulate the necessary experience to fully utilize the performance advantages of the pirate faction frigates. That forces you to consider what ship you will use until that time. To figure that out, we need to determine what you are trying to do. What type of role do you want to perform in your small gang (tackle, brawl, kite, EWAR, etc.)? What about the role of your wingman? What type of targets are you seeking to engage?

Don't listen to these guys, check thier kb... not so great unless they have 20 buddies! If you want to fly a dramiel go ahead! You just have to learn to fly it. you have to kyte or speed tank! my cheaper fit with mods i have lying around. If the dram is holding the target ship use AB. IF you dont need to tackle with the dram kyte and use drones for extra dps until target is taking beating then swoop in for kill

unlike other games money does not have the ability to off-set skill. KB's are littered with billions of isk worth of shiny ships that the pilot didn't know how to fly. Unless you have access to limitless isk I'd suggest taking Veshta Yoshida's advise and fly a slasher. Once you get good you can go ahead and get a dramiel but keep in mind even the best pilots with maxed skills and implants and boosters eventually die. No one likes to die even if dying doesn't really bother them; even fewer like to die in really expensive stuff. The reason my old wingman Garviel Tarrant is making fun of dram pilots is they get pvp-adverse because of the isk risk involved and won't even engage unless you trick them into it. |

I second the slasher remark. Learn slashers. Brawl with them. Then learn fire tails, and brawl with them. Then learn an wolf, arti fit and learn to control range. Then fly a stabber fit for kiting in falloff.
After you master those 4 ships, you might be ready for a dramiel. I have mastered 1 of them, and am damn good in the other 3, and I still know better than to even set foot in a dramiel. And you're not even close. This Space Intentionally Left Blank |

You sure have quite an inflated opinion of your own skills.

Hey, look. Another clown trying to start **** over the forums when people are just trying to give some friendly advice. I know my own limitations. I'm damn good at a handful of ships. I suck **** with anything bigger than a cruiser though, and even in the cruiser class my skills are highly focused. We all have strengths and weaknesses. I'm using my strengths, i.e. the ships I know, as an argument against the OP getting a bunch of stupid deaths. You can take it as e-peening, but that wasn't the purpose. The guy doesn't understand PvP, and needs to be made to understand that isk will not compensate for lack of skill, and will only further compound the embarrassment of his loss.
...I liked your first comment though. This Space Intentionally Left Blank |

You're not entirely wrong.. although i don't really see the logic in the ship progression list you made.
And i'm personally off the opinion that you need at least 100 kills with a ship to consider yourself "Damn good". I for example, am mediocre at best. Generally when someone thinks they are really good at Eve its because they are in some way ignorant.

Yeah fair enough. I exaggerated a teensy bit in that last post. And the progression was more saying not to **** around til he knew his ****. But anywho I've still got a shitton to learn. I am damn good with a fire tail, but still learning other stuff. I don't think we really disagree. We just approach newbs differently.
Every time I've tried to nicely tell a newb not to do something they've started crying soon after cause they did it anyways. Most new players come from WoW or theme park mmos, and think cause they're veterans there they get the hang of it here. I try to be as brutally blunt as possible because it sometimes saves them some hassle down the road. My source is getting a bunch of irl and online friends into eve...all of whom played too damn much WoW. Anyways we've derailed this thread enough.
OP: Don't fly a dramiel or you'll lose it to someone in a rookie ship without an afterburner or a warp disruptor, who was actually afk, and was targetting cause his cat was laying on the keyboard. Then his cat will accidentally post it to the forums. And we'll all laugh at you. And then some high sec gankers will pod you cause its funny. Repeatedly.

In an act of trying to balance out the majority of Dramiel pilots, I will endeavour to fly my Dram in the opposite manner mentioned above until it explodes magnificently. http://chasingtheblueflash.blogspot.com/ My Pirate Blog |

Shouldn't the Firetail be nearly as good as the Dramiel now? Except for the falloff bonus and drone part, i guess, but dps, mobilty and fitting wise it should be on par, and i think fitting wise even better (easier) |

You know what? I've been losing assault frigates to 400 million isk Dramiels of late. I am fairly upset about the whole thing and I hope to be able to do something about it. Until then I'll type about how bad they are (1337) until they fail or I finally beat one v0v

You must not be flying your af's right. A Caldari Navy Hookbill will tear a Dram apart! Dram's are based on speed, you must have a scram and web! |
