As some of you already noticed, connecting via the proxy I have at EVE-Files is no longer possible.
After some discussion between me and CCP we decided that I will close down the proxy - this is due to the possible risk I both put myself into as well as CCP when it comes to potential hackers, macrousers and exploit-users connecting through me.
However in return an internal discussion is started at CCP to look for the possibilities to open up additional ports directly to TQ.
This will hopefully ensure gameplay for everyone without having to use any 3rd party proxies.
I know some of you recently donated some ISK to me because of the proxy, if you in any way feel cheated of that money drop me a line and I will refund it to you.
If you have any concerns or questions just let me know.
Sorry for the trouble I cause anyone by closing this service.
Best regards, Chribba

This is unfortunate.
Unfortunately I doubt anything will be done by CCP. So looks like a year free of EvE for me :'(.

rofl perfect timming!!!
just when ppl who are expieriencing network problems found that your proxy is a life saveiour you turn it off ... what a coincidence
dont tell me you guys care more about potential macro minners than players who cant play at all....

Chribba, when I try to access eve throught your proxy, it says: "your IP address has been banned" Is this because of your shutting down the proxy, or is it because I've been banned? I don't think I've done anything that merits a ban... -- Remember: Pillage, then burn

His IP address has been banned, and seeing as you connect to TQ through his IP that's the message you get.

Your proxy gave me a day of eve, and that after 3 days of complete frustration (off work due to a back injury for this week only). So the isk donation was worth every penny as far as i was concerned.
Ah well, back to unplayable eve.

thanks Sku1ly, that's what I wanted to hear. Still, it's irriating that the wonder-proxy is dead. Oh well - all good things come to an end. -- Remember: Pillage, then burn

What now then? wait for another proxy to be onlined, or would that too be in breach of the EULA :S

Have your isp put some pressure out on tsd.cw.net to have them fix their problems instead, maybe that help to put some fire in the butts of those people if ccp is to small to do it.

Hypothetically, if I had a computer (server) in some other location connected to the net always and behind firewalls i controlled, and I were to set up a similar system for myself only, would there be any way to tell that I wasn't actually connecting from that computer, but from another one somewhere else?

I appreciate you having made the effort, but I can understand the reasons for the mutual decision. Thank you for at least providing me one night of play that was free of the disconnects that have plagued me all week.
I can only hope that, with this decision, CCP realizes that they now have an even greater burden to rectify these problems.

Is it just me that has this stupid feeling CCP can't manage so many people on their server, so they gladly cut some of us off?
Chribba, thx for your time and resources. Outstanding job. I used your proxy once or twice :( and I was so glad that I can pass that stupid firewall. What I'm going to do now?
Macroers and exploiters won't disappear just because the proxy went down...

not CCP problem directly (more indriectly its the internet problem)
but from what some web sites have posted some internet routers are offline so more traffic is going tho slower ones (more packet loss as well)
never realy had an problem with eve-online booting me off (CTD (it states Crash) is not the same as exit to eve logon {XTEL} :P just something i made up)
not sure how far eve goes to keep the connection alive or retry times or reconnect recover before it boots you off the server (should be high coes there is alot to lose if in battle)

Edited by: Juxus on 24/10/2005 07:01:21 thanks to Chribba for his service. Any idea if/when there will be a solution from CCP itself. I mean I will not be able to play EVE until there is the possibility to connect via a diferent port.
what IP has the the original EVE-Server Tranquility?

Any idea of a time frame on opening up other ports.
My work blocks the game on port 26000. Thanks to Eve-Files.com I was able to enjoy playing while at work.

Guess we will have to push CCP a bit on that issue. Hopefully soon, since it's not that much work to have their hardware use additional ports (I am talking router config here not actual TQ daemon config).

Just install OpenSSH for Windows at your home and use putty at your work to create a tunnel to your home. These are both free programs.
You can get OpenSSH for Windows here.
You can get Putty from here.
