Read about how bad Eve was on the Freelancer boards. Tried it out anyway, and funnily enough haven't played Freelancer since...

A friend introduced me to EVE during the beta testing. I got accepted into the last phase of testing for about 3 weeks. Ordered the game about 3 days after creating my beta character. If God made us to be just like him, then God is dumb and maybe a little ugly on the side...[F.Z] |

I had seen Freelancer and was hoping it would be a new 'Elite' - played the demo and it turned out be rubbish. I did a few searches for other space games (being a flight sim nut I didn't know what was out there) and saw that EVE was close to release and it looked really interesting. However, I then noticed it was a MMORPG and as I had vowed to never buy one I thought 'that's a shame'. Then I thought about it for a few days and bought it anyway just as it was released. I haven't looked back since :-)

Well, my spacetype MMOG carrer began with Earth and Beyond.. played it for about 6 months and was enjoying it until I leveled my character to that point where one is pretty powerful but realize that as you progress in levels it gets harder and harder to level. Since I am not a 24/7 player this was getting quite frustrating and I also then began to notice an extreme lack of content. Everyone had been talking about the Eve beta who played... some liked it some hated it (eve) but I found myself reading more about the game just prior to retail in the US. So out of sheer curiousity I bought the game on retail day. I have long since cancelled my E&B subscription and now both of my sons have their own eve accounts too. It is addictive... to say the least

My friend (new to PC gaming) bought it not knowing it was an MMORPG. He was blown away by it and recommended it to me.
I love space games but hate RPGs, so i was sceptical to say the least.
A great game, but there are some inherent problems, bugs, childish community (on the whole)and a severe lack of game marketing.
Most, if not all games these days hit the shelves ridden with bugs and every RPG ever has suffered from the same sad community types "i'm leaving cos" "this game sucks" "u nerfed my weapon" venomous little anoraks.
But no game can survive without sales, sales come through marketing (and having a good product)
The fortunes of war, i'll tell you plain, is a wooden leg or a golden chain. |
