Have been checking out a few quiet unclaimed 0.0 systems for possible mining opportunities. There's lots of ore there alright but trouble is the highest one is jaspet? I'm well aware that the rarer ore vary in where they are but shouldn't there at least be hemorphite like in empire and hedbergite like I've seen practically everywhere else in 0.0 I've been snooping around? Same situation in all the neighbouring systems. Yesterday I thought maybe someone had stripmined it all however unlikely but now logged on right after dt and still nothing but jaspet. Can the orefields be so full with lowerlevel ores that nothing new spawns? Any other explanations out there?

Doesn't it depend somewhat on the region?
Where you are now... the empire systems/region that borders the 0.0 space, what's the best ore in those systems?

Me: So is WOW any fun? My WOW-playing friend: Not really - mostly addictive. You run around in the forest, kill pigs and collect their nosebones. Me: ?!? |

There's a reason that some 0.0 regions are unclaimed
Providence and Pure Blind have crappy ores. It's not worth leaving empire for them, from a mining point of view.
There are other reasons that make it worthwhile

Yeah as I said I'm well aware I can't expect rare ores everywhere but at least I would expect hemorphite that can be found in every lowsec empire system. Seems to indicate to me that something's wrong here? The systems are indeed relatively near empirespace but their true security is classified as <0.0 by EVE explorer. Also I've seen for example dark gneiss in same region in systems even closer to empire space (but not healthy systems to stick around in ). And again the hemorphite is missing as well. So can asteroidfields in general become so full that they don't spawn any new roids?

Eh, I know how you feel. I did much the same a few weeks after joining Eve.
Unfortunately a lot of 0.0 is made up of fairly poor quality ore. You don't have to go terribly far to find better - five jumps from empire will sometimes get you good ore, ten jumps from empire and five from an npc station will generally yield something useful.
Problem is that although a lot of people say '0.0 is empty', systems with good ore are generally busy. It's better to find a corp that mines in 0.0 if you want to engage in serious mining.
I've always wondered what would happen if they added the lowest level '0.0' ore to all non-empire space (gneiss I believe). It would make the border zones more occupied, but it would probably unbalance the game.

Edited by: Tharrn on 21/10/2005 13:39:18 Funny thing is before CCP introduced the 'more random ore spawns' (har har...) Gneiss was to be found in about every 0.0 system and some Empire low-sec systems, too.
Then they introduced this system, that was advertised as more random as there was supposed to be a chance that a rarer oretype than usually accomodated by a system of that security level would spawn (read it here). I have literally wasted days on mining low quality ore to make better roids spawn, which didn't happen as the 'new, more random system' is in fact more static and limited than the old one.
Edit: should add that I really never, never ever saw any randomness. No Jaspet roid ever spawned in 0.5 for example. The feature page still shows this new, improved system as a part of Exodus. It's not there though which was never announced.

I thought that random system never made it in? Never seen any evidence of it working either. Thanks for the answers guys - guess I'll have to check around a little more to see if I find some better systems then.

Yes, it never made it in but is still advertised as a feature that is in (like gas clouds, comet mining... the Exodus feature page badly needs to be adjusted to the reality). Somehow it's always the industrial stuff that gets low priority.

No kidding The market is one of EVE:s absolutely best features but both mining and research badly needs an overhaul.

I have it on some pretty SOLID advice from a corp mate that he found a .5 with Jaspet in it... needless to say.. surronded by .4s and they were all camped :'( otherwise we'd probably have a base setup there :)
Dont ask me the name of the system i dont know it.. Probably 1 rock in a system full... :P glitch maybe?
