Let someone else do your work...
- In 1.0 space, Concord protects you.
- And if u get killed, it was just another Alternate Character...
- Oh yeah I can use secure containers... useless... because they can blow them up if they can't get at them...
And yes I am ****ed off! Basically, I just see it as a very bad move on the part of CCP. |

Being an ore thief is just like any other profession. The more notoriety it gets, the more people will take up the profession.
The down side is the more people steal from jettisoned containers, the more people will stop using jettisoned containers for mining. Eventually, the market will dry up as everyone becomes accustomed to using secure containers or just have a transport ready to take the ore away.

Yeah....I was flying my cruiser, mining for an agent mission and saw this indy...pulling from a container...when he warped to the station I approached the container and found 15k Plag. and 5k Pyrox. I could have taken as much as my ship could hold and there wasn't a thing he could do about it.
Free money! But you know what....I'm one of the few honest pilots. I didn't take anything. However, if I had....he wouldn't have been able to stop me. Why?? An indy taking on a cruiser?? Please....no contest. And we were in 1.0 space so the first to fire was gonna get toasted by concord. I also have a positive sec rating so no bounty. So....what is the deterrent....nothing. Except that I don't want to be a pirate/thief.
However, maybe I should. It sure seems like the pirates are having a lot of fun. Also it seems like there is no draw back to this kind of piracy....so maybe I will switch.

The theft of ore is in a sense just a question of moral issues. Technically, it is not and should not be considered an act of theft, as any items jettisoned into space should be considered abandoned and left to be salvaged by who ever desires.

Your premise is false, therefore there is no penalty except a possibly player imposed one.
SALVAGING contents from jettisoned cans is legitimate and within the law since jettisoned cans are considered space trash, the contents of which are treated just like the contents of the trash can you set at your curb.

There is nothing to stop you burning cats or dogs but you don't cos it would make you a *snip* Same principal.

The answer to people sealing from cargos is to have an alt that you can log on and hunt and kill the ore thief. Lots of people in my corp have alts that are ready to take sec hits to protect the miners.

Space and Sea laws seem to be rather the same, any unsecured container should be seen as abandoned....therefore if you need to store anything in open space that you need to return to and do not want to lose use a secure container....Anyways unsecure containers last only about 1 hour in space....anything else is just space debris and is finders keeprs...I myself have offloaded unwated bits and bobs into space and see them as trash, if i wanted the room and wanted to return to them later to retrieve i would use a secure container.

Does it make it right? No.
a proper salvage operation checks to make sure nobody has a claim - ie. if the owner is still around (read: in the system) before he "salvages." Salvage skills aren't in the game yet.. they should fully implement mining first, anyways.
Also please note: Whoever suggests using secure containers obviously doesn't know a bleeping thing about mining. Example: I would need something over 100 large secure containers just to mine for an hour.
Try that and then suggest it with a straight face.

Stealing from cans is just that .. stealing like shoplifting theft . Unfortunately the inner systems will prosecute you for gunning down a thief just as the local police will for shooting shoplifters in real life.
However The eve universe does give you an alt character. You can use him to be your Charles Bronson Gunning down anybody perp who is evading the law.
But perhaps a better idea is to get a friend to help haul your precious loot which not only is more sociable but is often more efficient too.

But if you leave a ú10 note on the floor, go out of sight, surely you are asking for it...
Same applied here... don't jettison it in a normal container unless you are prepared to lose it...

i wish you could pay a price to secure jettisoned containers. Like an option in the drop down menu "secure container" and it costed something like 1000lsk. -------------------------------------------- My passion is to fly, nothing beats it, nothing can compare to it. Free as a bird. Bird of prey. |

I managed to find a quiet solar system where 99% of the time theres only me and fellow corp members mining. We mine for 1 hour dumping into a unsecure cargo container. For reasons unbeknown to me a unsecure jettisonned container stores 45k of omber. No other secure container comes close to this. A giant secure container (that are not secure) hove a 3900 capacity. But if i wanted to use them i would have to make 8-10 trips with each container out to the belt. Fill the containers up which would take an hour then 8-10 trips back to base. Doubling my workload. We need better plank technology whereas we can get bigger capacity containers. |

OR like other space games....be able to tow/tractor behind us bigger cargo that we can't fit into the ships cargo bay, even perhaps tow debris from the pirates you kill to be recyled that would be cool
