So my new laptop arrived yesterday & I have been freshly installing things on it.
It's a Windows 7 Home 64 OS with literally only the important things installed on it (anti-virus, EveMon, Pyfa, Eve etc....)
Everything was fine until the launcher update shenanigans yesterday. I basically left it alone until the fix was produced and then tried to update it.
Problem is the launcher updated fine but then once opened it tries to install a patch and that is what keeps failing
Error text too long for the forums so on pastebin
Any ideas what's causing this?
If I try to run the repair tool I also get an error which contains this bit too 'unpack requires a string argument of length 4' so I can't do that.
I've tried deleting the launcher folder & redownloading it from the link but no luck, next thing I suppose is a total re-install but I'd rather not cause further pain to my monthly download limit.
On a side-note my gaming rig has been updated exactly the same way & works fine?
I have deliberately developed an air of cynicism that I originally intended to make me appear somewhat louche and caddish but actually comes across as irritable hostility combined with the unspoken threat of sudden violence..... |

This looks like the update package it downloads is broken. Why that is the case is a good question, though.

As an update I just tried this again and it applied the patch fine. No errors at all.
The only thing I changed was to set Eve to always run in Admin mode. However I had already tried the right click run as admin and that had failed previously.
Also obviously my login is the administrator account.
So anyway it works now & I choose not to question the why's too deeply in case it changes it's mind!

Daily update
Guess what chaps
It's doing it again, opened the launcher just now, it tries to install an update
'CREATING EVE_ONLINE_540656-540656_WIN.PATCH 0.0%'
Then fails with the same error message as previously.............

I am having this issue as well. Read this post a few days ago, rebooted and problem solved.... Until I quit the game. I got the same issue next time I tried to run the game, just like the OP, and now, just like the OP, restarting does not help.
Please dump this garbage and revert to the old launcher. There is absolutely zero benefit we are getting as players from logging in before the game launches. In fact this is a major hindrance.
Any help on getting this load of crap working in the mean time would be appreciated |
