Does anyone know the locations of where all the different ore types appear? Even a general area of space would be helpful.

Howdy player.
Right I am by no means an expert on the subject I do have a few pointers on the subject.
1, Depends on the type of ore that you are looking for.
2, What exactly do you need it for?
ok answer 1, well generally in Amarr and Gallente space you can find ores rich in isogen (omber and kernite iirc)
in caldari spyce you can find ores rich in nocxium (pyroxeres or plagioclase not sure which)
Answer 2, If you want it for making cash the best is to find ores which sell well. Now this does mean you need to be flexible and have to look at the market a lot but a good starter is pyerite (found mainly in scordite) which can sell for in excess of 6isk per unit.
But if you need it for building ships or modules then you will need a good range of minerals, therefore being close to all regions or at least within easy reach of them. (am pretty sure you dont want to travel 20+ jumps in an industrial just to sell it or refine etc.)

They appear in asteroid belts
Kernite is in Amarr space in 0.7 and below
Omber is in Gallante space
Plagioclase is in Caldari space
Not sure what minmatar have (prolly nothing)
Veldspar is everywhere, the most commonist of all ores and mined the least.
Pyroxeres is just about everywhere and the most useless of ores to mine.
Scordite is also everywhere but is mined to death as it's a good ISK earner.
Jaspet you'll find in 0.4 and below and is a great source for Nocxium (also gives a little zyd).
Hedbergite and Hemosoumthing are in 0.2 and below
The rest Crokite, Bisot, Ark, Mercoxit are found only in 0.0 and you will have to go deep into 0.0 to get some of them.

It depends on two things: Region, and Security Status.
For an example of the region business, omber is only in Gallente and Minmatar, and Kernite only in Minmatar and Amarr. Down in Querious we have bistot but no arkanor. When I recently went to catch as part of the fleet op to claim the station in FAT-6P, I noticed on my scanner that there was no bistot, only arkanor. And so on.
